LOH #131 - Me At My Best and Me Time!

Hello there everyone!
I am happy to join another incredible challenge in Community Contest#131.

We are all women, and we are beautiful in our way.

Me At My Best and Me Time!.png

The beautiful woman that I am...

I am at my best when I choose to serve as a teacher, and what makes it unique is that I work with my Aeta students. They are indigenous people living in a remote area in Zambales, Philippines.

Both the ways of living and teaching had altered drastically. I initially believed I couldn't handle all these modifications and changes, but I'm glad I did!

Being a teacher to these students is a beautiful privilege, but not because of my job; it is the best thing I have ever done to help them lighten their lives through education.

When it comes to interacting with others, these kids are poor. They are shy and cautious. They always run away when they see strangers. They see themselves as different in society because of living in a remote area. They are always careful about talking and afraid to express their sentiments to others.

We need to prepare them for their ability and skills, so when I'm teaching, I have to contextualize and make instructions and directions simpler than I used to. They typically have parents with no formal schooling because they live in a distant place, and education is not their top concern due to poverty. And the majority of them are unable to support their children academically.

Engaging in them gives my life meaning and makes me at my best. Teaching is not enough; teaching with heart, patience, and understanding is what they need. I am happy that being with them makes the best out of me. I learned a lot of things because of them.

They teach me how to love and be a good teacher, sister, and friend to them. They show me how life and acceptance are crucial for them.

They will make you feel even more that they adore you and owe you everything once you show them that you care and cherish them. They are thankful, so whenever I notice they are learning, even the little progress is a diamond in my eyes. They are my heart's treasures that no one could ever replace.

I am happiest when I sense they are at ease around me; getting hugs and smiles from them makes me feel content. My heart was overflowing with so much joy and love.

I feel at my best when I'm spending time with Indigenous students!

Me at my "Me Time"

But because I'm only a human, I am also getting tired and worn out, especially considering that it takes us over two hours to go through the mountains to get to our school; this is incredibly exhausting. In addition to that, we also have a lot of paperwork to complete, which increases our burdens. While having such a high inner tenacity will get you far, fatigue eventually sets in.

I, therefore, need "Me Time" as well. Being in nature is one thing that gives me a sense of time. I feel the most alive and content when the rivers are quiet, and the water is cold.

The thing that makes me the happiest is being in nature. I feel energized, comfortable, and creative when I'm outside. It also helps me cope with our busy existence's daily challenges. Something about nature cures me and gives me a nice feeling.

Making time for some solitude can be beneficial. So I give myself a break. If I never get to take a break from it all, it can feel like I have too much on my mental loadβ€”the tasks building up at work, the errands I have to complete at home, or the people in my life who need my attention. It's crucial to develop my ability to take time for myself.

This makes me happy, and I sincerely believe that if my cup is empty, I cannot fill another's. Before I can assist the rest of the world, I must take care of my needs.

Being a teacher will always be the best moment of my life, and being with nature is the best "Me Time"!

Definitely that being a teacher is a work that you are born from the heart and to practice it in a remote area is doubly admirable.
Congratulations for your best moment and may you always recharge your strength in nature.

Hello @teacherlynlyn it's lovely of you to share this. The Aetas are not the face of the Philippines, but they are still a big part of your history. I only ever encountered a few while living there.
It's great to see their beautiful happy faces, and hear about them from an educational point. πŸ™

I strongly agree with you. They are one of the most important parts of our history that are worthy to be loved, cared for, and respected. I am glad to know that you meet some of them :)
It's a great pleasure for me as a teacher to share my life through education, it will be a great pride of mine that I can be able to change their lives for the better and the best version of themselves.
God bless you! :)

Being a teacher comes with a lot of perks especially if you're dealing with kids, not teenagers. Kids have this pure form of energy that surrounds them and one could learn a lot from them if one is receptive.

Spending time with nature is a yes yes for me too. I love bonding with nature from time to time. It is indeed very restorative.

You incredible friend. I love that you see the humanity in your profession. You are the perfect teacher for that. Nature is the best "Me time" and that stream with the rock barrier area looks incredibly refreshing. I hope you get a good balance between "me time" and your best moments :) God bless πŸ™ πŸ’š
