Hive: The Web 3.0 Time Trap

avatar

This is my official excuse apology for not posting anything recently... I've been wanting to jump back into the fray, but it's also important that I discuss the challenges I'm experiencing on-chain (not to mention the usual real-life responsibilities, and this stubborn COVID-1984 #Plandemic shit, of course).

Hive Blockchain Time Trap.png

It matters-- the Hive chain stuff, I mean-- as it's these same hurdles that will almost certainly trip up and discourage other newcomers now and down the road... because it won't get any easier with the introduction of new platforms (ie. LeoFinance's #ProjectBlank), new mechanics and more tokens!

BLOCKCHAIN = WEB 3.0 = OMFG!!

That’s what I call the online blockchain-based ecosystems like Hive-- Web 3.0-- but I’m open to having a discussion as to proper labelling practices…

Wikipedia says the term Web 2.0 “refers to websites that emphasize user-generated content, ease of use, participatory culture and interoperability (i.e., compatible with other products, systems, and devices) for end users”.

And we have definitely all watched this shift to a seemingly user-focused environment with the proliferation of things like blogging, podcasts and e-commerce. The whole social and #SaaS explosion that’s been non-stop since the turn of the century is indeed this renaissance we’re talking about.

And Now We’re Going Decentralized!

When it comes to ecosystems like Hive though, it’s so much more than just the decentralization… there are entirely new socio-tokenomic aspects to the platforms and our interactions with them. And we get to control the finer mechanics that have until now been kept behind the administrative curtain.

We can even help govern and develop our favourite dapps and protocols-- or we can scrap everything and build from scratch, from an open-source script or by forking an existing chain. There really is a new level of ownership and participation!

Blockchain is Web 3.0.jpg

That's why I said "seemingly user-focused environment" above... while our participation and initiative has been driving the Web 2.0 phenomenon forward, we didn't have any ownership or real control of our own information or content-- let alone the mechanics and governance of our favourite platforms.

But there are still plenty of people who don’t think Web 3.0 has arrived yet. I don’t want to argue about it-- we’ll just have to agree to disagree for now-- but would you then call Hive a part of ‘Web 2.0’? Or perhaps ‘Web 2.1’ is a better fit…

Whatever the consensus ends up being, this new online landscape we find ourselves a part of is far more vast and immersive than the censored, centralized iterations ever were! It's good. Don't get me wrong: it's all good, but... umm...

This #Hive Thing is EXHAUSTING!

So much to learn… so much to do! So much to test and play around with, and there is a gigantic pile of content to create-- exponentially more every day!

Again, this is a good thing (I need to issue these positive reminders for myself) and it should force me to organize my time and efforts a little more effectively-- if I don’t want to dilute my potential and be pulled in too many different directions.

I can do that on my own with very little stimulus! There are six different pieces of content sitting half-finished in my folder right now, and I just continue to outline new ideas and research new areas of interest... then there's the time it takes to fiddle with my portfolio on #LeoDEX and fine-tune the allocations and setup...

Then there are the few games I play on a daily basis! #DCity doesn't demand my constant attention, but I do like to check in and tweak things occasionally. #RisingStar, on the other hand, does require more consistent babysitting.

And did I mention content?! Yeah, that too. Ugh.

So... I Clearly Have a Problem!

Am I exaggerating? Yes, I'm definitely making a bit of a mountain out of this slightly-taller-than-average mole hill... but it's not nothing!

Blockchain Hive Ecosystem Web 3.0 Time Trap.jpg

I told myself that the Hive Ecosystem is something I want to commit to-- #LeoFinance and #CTP in particular-- something that matters to me, so I really do hate to see my momentum fall of a cliff the way it has. It may not even be the last time it happens either... but I see it.

And I don't like hate it.

And I'm writing about it! What a perfect way to deal with my personal sidetracks and speed-bumps: turn them into content! It helps to forget about the pile of unfinished stuff for a moment, to leave untravelled some trains of thought so I can reflect.

HIVE BLOCKCHAIN SYNDROME THEN...

Or HBS for short... that's what we'll call it. I've talked about it before. It's a thing.

So how do you fine folks deal with it, the challenge of finding enough time to do everything you want to do on Hive? Are you some kind of superhuman freak who speed-reads and sleeps three hours a night? Do you employ a staff of two #curation assistants and a secretary? Hmm?!

Let me know in the comments what your secret is. And keep your eyes peeled for more content from me soon (spoiler: one of my next posts will talk about getting kids involved, and introducing my daughter to the Hive ecosystem. Excitement!)

Sigh... I feel better. Thanks so much for reading! I feel like I owe you a few hundred bucks for the couch session, but just put it on my tab for now. Peace out!

Well, I'm dealing with the "I have to work 8h a day" syndrome :)

After work, I need to find my time and motivation to create content because what I want is just to rest my mind playing some games or surfing.

Exactly right! That's what I mean... just too many things on top of so many things, and I guess I just needed to vent a bit. lol

I appreciate you taking the time to respond! Maybe things will get easier as time goes by. Cheers! :)

I don't know, you should ask @leofinance (and I'm not sucking anyone's dick)

Every few weeks a new project pops while I struggle to correct my grammar on a post not longer than 300 words LOL - so yeah, I'm not competent to talk about it hahaha.

You'll get used to it over time.

btw nice read.

I appreciate that, @ocupation. And that's just it: these folks are moving full-steam ahead and not many of us can keep up! It's cool though... better this than the other shit. I'll drag my heels a bit and enjoy the ride. Thanks again. You don't give yourself enough credit either-- you write well. :)
