When I think of close calls, i always hark back to a tragic day in 1987, when if I had been 15 or 20 minutes later getting through the underground station, i would have been caught up in one of the most awful fires to occur in London - The Kings Cross Fire. 31 people lost their lives that day. The resulting enquiry did, however, ensure the London Underground became a much safer environment to utilise - thankfully.
Congratulations, @improbableliason! Close call? I just had one really recently with my Dad in the car. I was coming up to a traffic light that was had just turned green. There was someone turning left in the lane I was in so I decided to try and go around them. Impatient that I am. Luckily I wasn't going very fast and was able to react quickly to stop because someone coming the other way was turning left and came close to hitting the front end of my car. Heart was beating a little bit faster after that one.

Had a close call at 17, still walking but no prior memory :)
Stood on a black snake once, it was a scared as I was and while I went in one direction, it went in the other
I once tripped o0n a gutter and fell into the street, just as a car was coming past, fortunately the Driver had quick reflexes.
