Hello everyone! I know I have been off a bit on the content creation but it has been a server kind of week. I got introduced to a new server host that is going to save me allot of money with running my Hive-Engine nodes.

New Hivelist.witness node and moving thelogicaldude Hive-Engine witness node

I have been in the process of starting up my new nodes on the new host! First one that I got set up was the @hivelist.witness node which has already hit it's couple of blocks and gotten a couple of votes other than my main 3 accounts with WORKERBEE tokens staked. Everything is looking good, but will say even though it has the same machine specs as the current host I am using, the database processing has been ALLOT slower. I think it's probably a network and possibly a location issue.

The new servers are out of Germany instead of the US which is what I am currently running my nodes on. I am at least trying to get allot of my server activity out of the states... land of the free my ass, lol, but really it's not that bad, just covering myself.

So I have never been much of a backend guy so the linux side of things is kind of Greek to me honestly, lol. But thanks to my other HE witnesses for helping me learn how to get around! I am a Wordpress guy that uses managed hosting services for the most part with a tech support department, lol. But now I am even learning how to take those onto my own VPSs with Wordpress as well.

I am now setting up the new node for thelogicaldude Hive Engine witness
which is going to take quite some time, but with the other one still running, I am not in a hurry now that I know what to expect since I have already set one up. The switch over will be super easy and I hopefully won't even miss a block!

I will be monitoring the new node for a couple of days and keep the old one disabled but still running in the background to make sure the new one is going to be a okay before I disable it.

Next Steps In My Server/Node Journey

Running a Hive Engine Snapshot server

Next steps for my knowledge building journey is going to be getting set up with 2 things. One I want to be able to run a snap shot server for Hive Engine where I can help keep a database backup for people to pull from if they have to restore their nodes. So hopefully one of the Hive Engine witness wizards like @eonwarped or @rishi556 can lead me down the path in being able to set up a snapshot server so I can help support in that manner!

Setting Up A Remote Windows Server on VPS... Nomadic Issues Solved

So one of my major issues in being a van life nomad and wanting to really contribute on a protocol level is not having a place to have a computer set up so it can run networks on a 24 hour basis. One thing I have really been looking forward to is the SPK Network and I want to be able to run the desktop app to be able to help run the network. I have a bit more deep diving to get into it, but from what @starkers and I talked about at Hive Fest, the desktop app is basically going to play a huge role in it.

Well, I cannot really effectively do that on my Macbook Air in a van. Heck, I ran into an issue with setting the @hivelist.witness node the first time was that I was running out of battery and it was going to take a while to run...

Well one... I have figured out how to properly disconnect to keep it going in a screen on the VPS... lol... but still power in a situation like that or like running the 3Speak desktop app are not ideal. But that is what led me to explore the Windows servers as I understand that it's basically like running a windows machine through a browser that can run 24 hours a day and I can just log in and out when I need to.

This may be what I use to help support he SPK Network when all that gets going! This is also going to help me with some other processes that I need to keep running basically 24 hours. So I am going to play around with it and see what I can do. This will also help me with running server maintenance and be able to leave a terminal connection at least open on the virtual Windows machine and be able to disconnect from my physical end if I need to move or I end up like I did the other day... running out of power on a cloudy day in Oregon, lol.

DLUX Node

After I get the Windows thing is figured out, my next node to look into is a DLUX node. From the guide it seems like a pretty simple setup, I just need to dig further to see what the specs are to see what node size I will need...

Yes... I am beginning to become addicted to nodes... lol... Hey, I miss mining, this fills the gap, lol.

Hive Witness

Yep, the last step is to move onto the big boy world of running a Hive witness. Just not sure whether to do it on the new @hivelist.witness account or just use @thelogicaldude... What are your thought's on that? Let me know in the comments, please... lol.

I have found my conviction in the Hive blockchain and want to support it fully! By starting my own Hive witness, it puts me in the running for governance in the layer 1 blockchain, and that would make me feel even more of an asset to our amazing, growing community! Now I know that it will take some serious work and campaigning to get up into the top levels of witnesses, even to just hit backup blocks, but it will be worth it if I can basically pay all the bill with the Hive Engine witnesses.

The Dude is ALL IN on Hive

I was sitting here thinking while watching these processes run... Why am I not doing all this?? I mean I am pretty much all in on Hive all the time on a daily basis. It's the main blockchain I use. My online family is here... I mean I know there are some better yield farming opportunities on other chains like Binance Smart Chain, Polygon and the Cosmos ecosystem, but we have fast feeless transactions and can easily exchange to a multitude of cryptos through the SWAP tokens on Tribaldex and Hive Engine...

I mean the DEFI protocols I use on BSC and soon Polygon are based on @leofinance projects... which originated on Hive... So yeah, it's a no brainer... I am all in on this ecosystem and going to do my part in securing our amazing network and as many of the second layer protocols I can!
