What is an AMA?

AMA is a format popular on Reddit where one person offers to answer questions for a limited period of time.

How long will I answer questions?

I will usually answer them pretty quickly, and I should be around for a few hours. I will continue to answer them as they come in.

What type of questions can you ask?

I'm open to pretty much anything but my interest fall in the following categories:

  • Hive
  • Hive Witness
  • Crypto
  • PCs
  • Gaming (Video, Board, Crypto)
  • Rescuing my team mates in Hunt: Showdown
  • Ape Mining Club
  • Hive Punks
  • Photography
  • Development
  • Technology
  • Productivity
  • Movies & TV
  • Comedy
  • Memes
  • Waiting for GPUs to come in stock Finally got one!

Don't feel limited to the above categories, just things I generally know about.

Some updates

Kitty is just getting comfortable, she is looking forward to getting most of the questions.

Is using specific tags important on HIVE? Could it be effective for a post's being popular?

0

avatar

I highly recommend finding a specific community or tribe first and use their tag. I would then use something very relevant as your first tag, in this post I used #AMA for example. I would consider 1-2 other relevant tags that might categorize your post very specifically next.

Finally, add any tribes tags that are relevant.

Thanks for the opportunity. My question is related to Hive Punks. When do you estimate the release of the auction platform?

I am hoping soon, I have been tied up with a few things and there are some other things I want to do before releasing it.

That being said, I might do a sprint and just try to knock it out as I know it is going to be a popular change.

Hey Marky, Good morning from my end.

I’d love to know what your development stacks are; and if possible I’d love to get a list of projects you worked on. Off/on blockchain.

I always say to people I am not a developer, and I believe that as it isn't really my job or my day to day activity. I just do what I need to do to get what I want done.

That being said, I typically use Python or Javascript or a mix of the two. For front end, I have been using Vue. For backend, typically Postgres.

For projects off chain, I have mostly only worked on private projects and a few iOS & Android games with Unity.

I am very interested in AI and Machine Learning and dabble with that as well.

Are you thinking of expanding the number of punks in future?
Are users gonna be allowed to mint their own punks in future?

Are you thinking of expanding the number of punks in future?

No, I will not be creating any more Punks. First off, it is technically impossible as the PUNK token has a max supply of 10,000. Second, it wouldn't be fair to anyone who minted them under the impression there would only be 10,000.

I did a one-off NFT that auctioned off a 9600x9600 image of every Punk. It was a single edition mint only.

Are users gonna be allowed to mint their own punks in future?

No, for the same reasons above.

I have considered offering a tool that would allow them to get one randomly (or chosen attributes) for fun, non-NFT, but I am not 100% sure I will do this.

(Edited)

I’m trying to build a platform to mint scaled PDFs (patterns or designs eg: sewing patterns, architectural layouts ) as NFTs. Patterns developed with a CAD tool I built(or any other CAD). I want to offer designers the opportunity to sell or “hire” out their patterns. The idea would include a PDF version of the pattern (presumably with an image (video) driven tutorial and an AR option (for sewing patterns at least) so that the asset is “virtual” only and “shone” on to the fabric to be cut via a mobile device (no downloading PDFs, printing them out and (usually, depending on the printer) having to stick them together with tape. It’s difficult to visualize if you’ve never used a PDF pattern from the web. Oh dear I’m explaining this badly. Here’s a sample of the AR experience (early stages, but...) you’d need a HIRO hardcopy to view the AR . https://itsostylish.com/patternAR.html

question : Anyway, in your opinion does the idea have any merit + any resources you can recommend

0

I am not too familiar with the sewing patterns community, but I did have something similar in mind with 3D printing models.

I'm afraid I can't offer much feedback on this as it is out of my element. I suspect thought there will be a learning curve for your audience.

I would love for you to build this! Taping pdf patterns together is such a pain that I prefer to work from a scaled graph and draw onto pattern grid paper. Not sure how expensive a projector is, but that sounds brilliant.

0

avatar

You wouldn’t need a projector. Patterns for projectors are actually fairly common already. What I’m trying to do is make an AR experience for sewers (or other creators) that only requires a mobile device - Smartphone or Tablet. Then you would simply need to point your device at a marker and the pattern will project onto the fabric for you to cut. LoL, sounds like magic, but it’s totally possible right now. I’m struggling with the aspect ratio at present, but I’ll get there. 😆

This engineer is feeling pretty old now, LOL. I am old enough that I keypunched FORTRAN code on to IBM cards and remember the TRS-80. Now you tell me I can project without a projector. Will I see Iron Man's cool desk in my lifetime?

I know you don't like 'general purpose' tribes.

With that said, for those general purpose tribes that you tagged in this AMA post, what is something you like about each one?

0

avatar

With that said, for those general purpose tribes that you tagged in this AMA post, what is something you like about each one?

Not much to be honest, I just tag what's relevant. I like to reach as large of an audience as I can. I firmly believe a tribe/community for everyone is a tribe/community for no one.

While one general purpose tribe is fine, a bunch of them just makes no sense to me (just my opinion). It just ends up being about rewards.

I'd love to see thousands of niche communities thriving rather than a general purpose tribe taking people's attention away from actually building a community on specific topics.

Unfortunately, our user base isn't large enough to make this a reality (at least for now). If we had millions of users, I think the attractiveness of niche communities will be much higher.

That being said, if a general purpose community/tribe built a front end that offered an experience no one else offered, I'd be 100% behind that. Our biggest problem right now is onboarding, especially with tribes. I tell people all the time I think the #1 focus of tribes/communities should be onboarding.

I am not "against" general communities, I just feel it is counter productive to what we really want to accompolish.

I started STEMGeeks for the sole reason of increasing the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) content on Hive. It has worked to some degree, but I have found there just isn't enough people interested in this on Hive.

I do support any effort that gives people on Hive something to do, a reason to visit every day, and a place to call home. So while I'd rather see a community with thousands of users talking about singing songs in the shower, I'm all for any community focused projects that keeps people entertained, active, and interested.

Hi, Hope you are doing great.

With hive punks sale and hive more than a dollar. A lot of funding was raised against punks. How do you plan to use to for future of punks and hive itself?

Also are their any plans to collaborate with new hive projects and get something for punk holder like airdrops or early access or whatever can work out. Utility of punks will be crucial in deciding their future value and market activity.

Finally! This time come to ask you about the question i have in mind and possible to answer me

Maybe your answer the same question to another hive member

Maybe is 2 questions but is on one line together

Have you been in crypto on 2012…? If the answer is yes can you tell me the worst experience for then?

0

I believe I started in crypto around 2012-2013. I know I started buying bitcoin around $300 and Ethereum around $7.

My worst experience is getting involved with ICO's on friends recommendation. I almost always get my ass kicked when I do that.

I have had much more success going on my own instincts.

Hello 👋🏽

Looking at your reputation on hive and the way you write, you seem like a serious person to me. Do you have fun? If yes 🙂 please what do you do for fun that is outside the mentioned categories? 🙂

avatar

You probably haven't been following me long enough if you think I am a very serious person. While my writing style is serious, my engagement is far from it. In fact, last year at Hivefest I ended the event with a stand up routine. I'm a goof ball through and through. I often say don't take life too seriously, you will never get out of it alive.

What I do for fun mostly involves family and friends. I am big into video games and movies, but I love hanging out with our friends. We have a pretty group of people where we go on group vacations together, and do regular get togethers to play games or just bullshit and enjoy good food.

Outside of the above categories, not sure specifically. I love taking my son to Disney, having pool parties (kind of my thing), and just chatting with friends.

As I have been self employed for a good part of my career, and recently fired all my customers, a lot of my time has been dedicated to being with my son. It is my favorite use of my time.

What you do for fun is actually exciting, going on a vacation with friends is something I have always looked forward to.

You son will love the fact that you spend time with him.

Thank you for answering my question 🙂

It is good. Being with your son will provide much more joy and happiness which is very important. While I was growing up, we did a board game competition everytime in my house. I am the only child so it was fun. Scrabble, chess and checkers and sometimes monopoly. I don't talk often with my dad now but those memories i can never forget.

Each of those tags have meaning. Some of them are general though, I would research each tag before using them to make sure you are 'on topic' for the community tied to them.

This is a witness parameter, so it can change at any time based on what the top witnesses signal.

I would browse posts tagged with #Hive (/created/hive) and read what you find interesting. You can check out Hive.io for some more information, especially if you are looking for developer information.

I see many are afraid of higher inflation, mostly because it's associated with increasing prices. As a top witness and major stakeholder on Hive, do you believe Hive would do well with a higher inflation, provided there will be a major and sustained influx of new users? This also could be related with the rise in popularity of the AMMs and the need for liquidity.

I personally would prefer lower inflation unless we had a lot more users or a good use for that inflation.

I think removing rewards off layer one would be a good step in reducing inflation.

f yeah! Been selling as fast as I can. (not financial advice).

Immutable X allows you to sell without any fees. You still have to list one by one, but it's no longer cost prohibiative. I sold a bunch in the last two weeks but still have a crazy amount to list it is just so slow so I list the most valuable.

If you haven't claimed them yet, there are two airdrops based on your collection.

If you do list, use TokenTrove, not Immutable X directly.

Greetings.
I like the way you write and you're doing a lot for hive community. Thanks for what you are doing and I have 2 questions to ask-

1- These days when Splinterlands game is leading name so I want to ask if you play this game ? If not then which gane you play?

2- punks have created lots of excitement on Hive and I am one of the holder. I know that punks Market place has improved and my question is that- are you planning something big and significant for punks on Hive and what is it?

Thanks.

Hey!
Just a few days ago I met punks. So far I have bought myself two of them and I plan to increase my collection. Now I am studying the history of their appearance, and I was imbued with this unusual idea.

It seems to me that the phenomenon of punks is not so simple, and in the future it will be studied as a breakthrough in avant-garde art. I myself opened my heart for them, and I try to understand why they impressed me so much. The punk idea seemed silly to me at first, but now I feel like it's a pretty deep idea.

What are punks to you? Art, a project to popularize the platform hive, entertainment?

Punks has been cloned on most blockchains, Hive didn't have them so I built it here. That was my primary reason behind it.

It is also an excellent display of Hive's ability to do NFTs with fast free transactions.

  1. Token we earn like pizza and LUV can we convert them to hive or hbd? What's the process? Step by step can be very helpful to me.
  2. How the delegation works here? I'm familiar with steemitworld.org to check details of steemit but for me its confusing here. How to details report of account including delegation and someting else.

I'm a returning user and almost new to hive. Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Marky!
Hivepunks related question
I wonder how did you associate properties to each of 10000 punks. I guess some have to be done in old style (one by one) like number of accessories.

Hive can potentially fit in any market and geographics. It's pretty flexible and really only limited by what people think up.

Can we get the Koreans back on board?

I have no clue, I'm pretty sure the Koreans on Steem are pretty salty, but they are not the only ones in the world. They are not the only ones who can raise the price of Hive either.

First name or two were taken, so I just started repeating things in my head (like dog dog) and chose markymark, but at the time it had nothing to do with Mark Walburg. I wasn't even sure if I was going to even do anything here, took about 22 days before I even broadcasted a transaction.

This gives me more questions. If your AMA is over, I may have to look it up. What are SMart Contracts? As far as seeing hive in 5 years, I meant more the platform with the blogging and what the platform will offer and not the price per se, since that will be unpredictable. Thanks for taking the time to answer earlier. :)

A smart contract is a set of code that is supported by the blockchain.

This allows people to create dapps that are less centralized.

Any Plan to leverage Hive Punks with STEM ? or any other use cases of Hive Punks ?

I don't think they will utilize STEM in anyway. No official use case right now, but I am brainstorming.

Hi Marky!

Can you give please me some advice on how to get into some curation trail? I would like to be more active here on Hive and help expose good posts. My vote is not so strong and decency boost sometimes works, sometimes not... However, I think I would be a great curator. Where can I find the right address for some curation groups.

Thank you and Hive on!

Hey! With Hive.vote you can create your own Voting trail. You 'only' have to get people to subscribe to your trail.

I'm sorry, I am unable to give financial advice. I am not sure what I would suggest in your situation.

Thank you and Merry Christmas.

Thanks, and you too.

I really hope that Hive will get me out of the financial discrimination. I think and I plan about this in long term. Thank you for replying, even if you cannot give financial advice. Merry Christmas. Have a nice day. All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.

What do you think is/are the best practice(s) to grow an organic following on any social media platforms and do you think those same practices hold true with crypto social media platforms such as Hive?

Consistency and offer value, same formula for all social media. Just other platforms are much harder.

Hi Mark First of all, I am very happy to talk to and have knowledge with experienced people like you in this community. Thank you so much for giving us such an opportunity. When I look at Question Categories I see many options. Actually, I wrote to get to know and meet you, rather than a question. I teach in primary school. Now I'm looking at the articles you shared. How do you evaluate the peaks, dips and pugs of coins in cryptocurrencies?

I don't. I just go with my gut. I've been in the game long enough that dips don't phase me.

hello @themarkymark, you have organized a great comment event to ensure activity in the community. You're super.👍 I'm following your posts. I read your success story with interest in your previous article. You have a beautiful family. God bless them. 🙏 I see that you support many users and I appreciate you. I have been in the blockchain world since 2017. I am active on steemit first, and now on hive. Although this place did not bring me financial gain, I met many nice people. I meet a few of them in real life. I love my friends here. I hope one day I can increase my voting power like you and support the accounts that I need to support on hive. But first I want to strengthen my account. I write very good articles for this.

I think the secret to success is patience and perseverance. What do you think is the secret of success?😊

Happy new Christmas 🌞

  1. Where and how should I start learning to code?
  2. Favorite meme?
  3. Thoughts on "jack of all trades, master of none"?

  1. Codecombat.com is good
  2. Shooting Stars
  3. Actually, most quote this incorrectly. The full quote is: “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.” The original meaning is opposite than what we take it today.

The day I found out about this, it was like a light bulb moment.

Seems I am a bit late to this post, but I will still give it a shot (it's worth the try).

  1. As someone who has been here since 2017, what are some lessons you have learned throughout your time here that could be valuable to a barely 3-months old Hive content creator like me?

Thank you in anticipation of your response @themarkymark 😊

P.S: Wishing you and your lovely son a prosperous 2022.

Always try to offer value and don't be self serving when you publish. Respect your readers time and commitment. Be consistent, don't publish at random intervals and expect to become a top author.

Hi @themarkymark
Since this is your Christmas edition may I ask for a Christmas favor?
I did a few posts and in them I mentioned Steem
The result I got in the bad books of Hive Santa which further resulted in me in the down vote lists of yous and that of @pfunk @buildwhale @upmyvote ,@freebornsociety...
Well I have no plans of writing about STEEM here and would very much appreciate if I am take off the down vote list.

I would really appreciate if you could please grant me this chance of being active on Hive and not being down voted on my comments and posts?

Hey, since you released Punks on Hive a while back, I'd love it if you could answer a few questions about it.

You say above that you created the Punks using the Hive Engine. Do you plan to make the process behind it available in a way that even non-savvy users would have a way to release their own NFT collections? Similar to what Openseas offers?

Is there documentation of any kind explaining how the minting process for NFT's is viable via Hive engine?

I ask specifically as I have created my own NFT collection. Mainly to understand how the generation of these random images works based on different layers. Now that I have achieved this goal, the thought of putting the collection on a blockchain did come up. That's where the Hive blockchain would be tempting. Would there be the possibility to get a direction from you or if necessary to see if one could knock out my collection together?

I have been thinking about building an OpenSea type of platform, potentially creating a new NFT backend.

Only thing I know of is the Hive Engine Wiki

I have been asked a lot about collabs, and I don't have the time right now as I am working on multiple projects right now.

That was fast, thanks for answering me. Would be awesome to see a OpenHive around here, would definitly put my collection up here.

That was my assumption, should you be longing for a stylish and new NFT collection, let me know ;) In the meantime I'll bury myself in the Hive Engine documentation.
