DIY | Tutorial | Tulle Pompom Hairclip
Hair accessories
I have mentioned it before, but I used to have a webshop with handmade children's hair accessories. This was such a great time for me as I was constantly designing the coolest hairclips/headbands/jewelry and other cool stuff. I remember feeling overwhelmed by my competition in the same niche area at first, but soon, it was clear that I had my own style and people loved it. At one point, I started to get copycats as well. I was not amused, but in the end, it was probably a compliment.
Very sensitive for quality products
The reason I haven't picked up the webshop sooner is mostly due to the fact that I usually find garbage supplies. I had a few trustworthy suppliers back in the days, that actually could deliver everything I needed. Even ordering from my competition (against higher prices) back in those days would be more satisfying than the average product I can find abroad in the past years.
Not in one, but two countries the offer of the supplies I desire to get back to create my own handmade quality products is very low. I can't be that person that makes a hairclip that doesn't close anymore after a few times using it. I stick to my personal values and order good products, those that I would buy myself. I can't spend all that time and effort in creating something with love and passion, using rubbish hair clips inside.
Slowly, I'm starting to find some products that I approve of, but I can only make a few things from those, not 100s of different designs as I did years ago. I decided to accept it as it is, and just let my creativity flow with the products that I have on hand. But secretly, I do hope that in the near future, I will be able to pick where I left in the old days designing and selling many hair accessories and other items.
Tools and supplies
Let's collect the items we need for this craft, shall we? You actually don't need many supplies to craft this tulle pompom hair clip.
First, we are going to make a pompom cutting tool, this way we will be able to create more pompoms easily once this one is done.
For the cutting tool we need:
- round ruler
- cardboard
- scissors
- glue gun
For the pompom we need:
- Tulle about 1/2 spool per color (15x900cm)
- scissors
- pompom cutting tool
- glue gun
- thread
- Two felt circles
- alligator clip
Instructions for the pompom cutting tool
I will show you how to make the cardboard pompom cutting tool first, it's very simple, and the pictures will show you how it's done.
Pompom hairclip instructions
Now let's get to the fun part: creating the pompom hair clip.
You can choose to skip the last step, but I always experience that this helps hairclips say in place even when the child has very straight hair. It's just a simple extra step but worth it!
The End Result
I will offer this hairclip as a set with the tutu as they are matching. They do well in photoshoots.
I hope you liked this tutorial, thanks for stopping by!
Not so creative but interested in handmade products?
I know not everyone is creative, and there are also a lot of people out there that lack the time to be creative, but would love to purchase handmade items instead. I'm your girl! I'm only showcasing a tiny bit of what I can create, I love designing new things and over time you will see the diversity of handmade items I design with love. I've done many custom orders for my webshop and never disappointed anyone as I will make sure to communicate your wishes upfront and during the process.
You can reach out to me if you'd like to order one of my items for sale, or when you want something custom made in other colors, just reach out. I've decided to accept $HIVE and $HBD as a payment method for my handmade items to make it an easy transaction for Hive users.
