Listnerds Mail Token Earnings Update

Listnerds Mail tokens

I wrote about them before, you can check for more info about MAIL tokens here. Basically, it comes down to the fact that you earn MAIL tokens for the e-mails you read, and with those MAIL tokens you can send out e-mails yourself. One MAIL token equals 1 e-mail. So unless you are buying the MAIL tokens, you will need them to send your own e-mails to other members.

Mail token earnings

Until yesterday, every member with a free account earned 5 MAIL tokens per email they read, a premium member earned 25 tokens, business 35 and enterprise even received 50 MAIL tokens per e-mail. This meant that if you opened all your received e-mails every day, you'd have enough MAIL tokens (10000) for a SOLO mail every 4-5 dage on average. These SOLO mails have the benefit of being immediately verified, thus sharing part of the reward pool of that day.

MAIL earnings update

As per April 1st, at least in my time zone (LOL), we are now receiving a number of MAIL tokens that are tied to your reputation score (this is also newly implemented!). You can see in the image below how many tokens you receive for each of the available memberships.

afbeelding.png

So until yesterday, if you're an enterprise member, you used to receive 50 MAIL tokens per e-mail that you read. And every 4-5 days on average you could use these tokens to send out a SOLO mail that would get a share of that day's reward pool regardless of the number of upvotes on that e-mail. Since the change, you will receive 30 to 40 MAIL tokens per e-mail that you read, depending on your reputation score.

Your Listnerds & CTP earnings won't be affected!

What's important to point out here is that your reputation score is not (and will never be according to @blainjones in the Thursday Night Life show) affecting your Listnerds and CTP earnings but only affects the number of MAIL tokens you earn by reading e-mails. As they mentioned in the show, the community now decides on what your reputation score will be and it's meant to give you an extra metric to measure your Listnerds journey. Are you on the right path or not? Should you do better and what content is not received well? Etc.

My thoughts

I think that this change will be something that we're used to pretty quickly, and it will motivate people to do better. Of course, there will always be people that just don't care enough to get better and improve their behavior. That's life, I think we have collected a nice group of people that want to add value to Listnerds and therefore this will probably be received well by most people. If you believe the platform should aim for quality content, you are most-likely going to see the value in these changes.

Thanks for the information. It will really help those new to ListNerds.

I like the new reputation score and MOST changes to ListNerds have been positive.

Changing the amount of MAIL credits earned based on reputation makes sense to me, but I feel a little "jipped" having signed up for (and paid for) 50 credits per clicked mail. My enterprise is expiring tomorrow and I have to decide if I want to renew it for another month. This does NOT encourage me much.

I enjoy keeping up with ListNerds, but there are a few things that are concerning to me. While I was initially excited about potentially winning liquid LISTNERD or CTP tokens, I've opened hundreds of mails and have never won since. The odds have never been explained and it seems as if the odds were good to win ONE TIME (to get people pumped up), but the odds become extremely low after that. That's speculation, but based on opening and clicking on A LOT of ListNerd mails with zero wins.

That combined with the new reputation credit system and the amount of time ListNerds takes from the day, I'm leaning towards NOT renewing enterprise another month.

I have to agree with you on the listnerds and ctp token wins by opening mails because although I had 2 or 3 lucky ones within a few days after it was introduced, I only had one 5 CTP maybe 1 week ago. I don't even remember when but for the rest I had 750 HP delegated and still no wins, so didn't feel like the odds were higher at all.

I lowered my delegation to 500HP as I saw my VP drained and if there was no real higher chance (so it feels) I decided on that.

signing up for 50 mail per click is indeed a reason to re-consider your membership, just remember though that these changes are probably done to improve the system and discourage the low content earning members to stay lazy and encourage them to be better.

didn't feel like the odds were higher at all.

After winning my first prize, I was highly incentivized to open and click on a lot of MAIL... but alas, no more prizes.

discourage the low content earning members

That is the good side to reputation incentives, better rep, more reward. I'm surprised that HIVE doesn't scale rewards based on rep... maybe that would be abused.

Did you manage to earn that $97 back or it required more work?

Did you manage to earn that $97

It really depends on the long-term value of LISTNERD tokens. They're not really salable, but they may return token dividends someday and they already return LISTNERD token dividends.
Increased traffic and interactions/upvotes on posts - tokens aside, the traffic alone was worth it.

For accounting purposes, no I did not fill the HIVE expense... but I didn't really expect to profit in HIVE over 30 days but get a foothold in the ListNerds/CTP community and that I did for sure! I've met so many cool people!

It's still up in the air if I'll renew, but I'll be on listnerds for a long time!

thanks for sharing this comment..
im curious what you mean by "they not really salable" since they are valued at 2:1 on hive tokens.. and that is the only source of compensation we seem to have here of any significant value..

do you mean there is no way to sell them or maybe no one is buying?
will be good to understand this better, cheers!

(Edited)

Good question, I should probably clarify. With a 10 week unstake, it's not practical to put them on the market, making them not really salable right now.

ALSO, there isn't a lot of volume to sell right now @ 2 hive each. Could sell about 400 @ 1.5 hive each, but after that it goes down to 0.50 each. Again, not very salable right now.

To be fair, things change. If there is a sudden demand for listnerd tokens, say it were announced that the token will begin mining defi style daily rewards (besides listnerd tokens), people might put in some higher buy offers and make listnerd tokens more in demand, more salable.

Edit: I should also add that listnerds is innovating and improving rapidly and I see this as a good sign that what is now, may not always be. Listnerd token may earn it's pricetag in the future. If so, early adopters stacking these tokens will do very well.

There is a lot of listnerd buzz right now, and the buzz seems to be centered around the listnerd token. This is concerning to me. Listnerd's greatest feature is "content discovery" - not the listnerd token. Anyone posting in listnerds exclusively for the token, be cautious, we don't really know what it's worth yet.

thank you muchly for this explanation! It makes perfect sense what you say, and i did notice that indeed the buy orders for listnerds is at best 1.5 Hive and then very quickly much lower..

I think its good for me and others to understand what its good for, at least in the short term, which is as you say content discovery! Its clear to me that many more people find my posts after i put them on listnerds, and its been nice to meet new people, such as your self, and get more engagement on my posts!

Cheers!

Glad to have explained my observations better. I wrote a post on it last week. It's good to be informed and set realistic expectations. Cheers! !WINE

Overall odds right now are about 14%, so a little higher than we projected initially, but that was with a test of 50k runs. It's still under 20k runs currently, so still some time to let the odds smooth out a bit.

Ah! Thank you for explaining what our nice little numbers next to our usernames are. And for detailing the other changes, I was up to my elbows in farm work last night so wasn't able to catch the announcement.

With Listnerds being so new and popular, I am sure there will be lots of changes to swim through over the coming months/years, I'm just glad there's such a cool community to hang with while we work it😊

I think these are good changes if we want Listnerds to succeed in the long term. Maybe some of these people will start sending out more mail with better quality now that this has happened

I'm up for the challenge of improving my reputation and paying attention to which emails are and are not verified. I already did that, but it makes it a little easier this way. I think it's a good change...and the "chance" feature is something I like too. Hopefully, that way there will be more liquidity on Hive-Engine so that there are more buyers for Listnerds.

A liquidity pool would be totally awesome.

Thanks for the post, you consolidated everything I need to know. Being an Enterprise member myself I was wondering what was going on. In my busy life I needed it put down plain and simple like you did for me. Thank you.
