Fees WTF 25000 dollar airdrop.png

Missed out on the $SOS airdrop wealth? Have no fear, $WTF is here!

Hold up, just read until the end first, before you rush to the fees.wtf site, ok? I used a little click bait here, so let me get into details first. I missed out on the $SOS airdrop because the ETH transactions made were a year old (or older), and after that I had already moved most funds from ETH. Nothing to see there, move along please! I mean, on $HIVE we can buy tons of tokens without gas fees. I can safely say that HIVE is much more appealing than paying half a salary in gas fees to (hopefully) make some profits. The thing is, with a few hundred bucks available to move TO ETH to pay for these gas fees is just rarely appealing to me. I don't hold any ETH in my wallets currently because I rather spend my funds on chains that don't take a high percentage of my money when I put in an order.

Let's get back to Fees.wtf

You might have heard about them? You can connect your wallet, and se how much gas you've spent before a certain block and how many transactions failed etc. Some may be shocked to see how many they've spent, others may already have a good idea of the gas wastage on ETH. Miners will be thankful, I guess.

Yesterday, I checked my wallets to see if I was eligible for the airdrop

I was excited to see that there was a whopping 280k WTF in total combined over a few wallets eligible for the airdrop. I felt like today was going to be the same celebration day as last year when we received our UNI drop. This was going to be our new January 2nd! That was the day we found out about the UNI drop last year and was hard to top, until now, right?

The claim started at 1 AM our time

And there was no way I was going to stay up for that, I went to bed and decided to check this morning what happened in WTF world so far. See for any confirmations this being a scam, or people getting rekt last night. It's quite easy to make those that missed out on $SOS believe that they are the next generation getting RICH over getting REKT, isn't it? So even though I had a little bit of hope waking up with our ticket to move to Spain this year all being funded over night, I also knew that I should not FOMO into this and sit back, relax and see what happened first.

Discord & Twitter research

I started by googling fees.wtf finding them at a 58% score of being trustworthy. Or maybe 56, don't remember, but it wasn't all greenish as looking trustworthy. Alright, now let's check their Twitter.

Link

Be aware, there is already an impersonator account active, although I wonder which one of these is the actual scammer in the end, lol.

I browsed through their tweets and I didn't find anything alarming at first sight. But what does that tell me? Not much, really. So I joined their Discord and saw this announcement to begin with:

Although some may be able to actually see if this is trustworthy, I would not even give that a try myself. At this point there was even more reason to be cautious. Go ahead and see for yourself what you think about these link to Github in their announcement and let me know your conclusion in a comment so that I can hopefully learn something here for future references.

I decided to go to Uniswap and check the value

Not that I had any intentions of claiming this airdrop at this point, but I was curious to see what the value was when I'd swap it to USDC as mentioned in their announcement. Here's the screenshot:

HOLY FUCK! I actually found my ticket to Spain and MOAR!

I SHOULD claim it, no? I COULD have my funds unlocked in a heartbeat, no?

Hmm, I probably WOULDN'T have, looking at the huge difference when I tried to see the value on Sushiswap above. From almost $25k to $3.2K in a matter of a minute. Ouch.

Leofinance text divider.png

But $3.2K is still so much, claim it!

Yeah, it's still 1000 dollars more than the Uniswap airdrop and therefore still appealing to claim. Or is it? The fact that these two display such a different value is alarming to me. I decided to research a bit further and found this tweet:

It may be that a big part of his followers arrived after his tweet about the WTF drop, but I'll take my chances and feel what he's writing is legit.

I'm glad FOMO didn't get the best of me

As I've learned a few things along the way, I realized quickly that I should be very cautious. I can't say 100% sure it's a total scam, I mean, it's possible the price stabilizes and the tokens will eventually be worth something or maybe we can take a few hundred profits. I don't know at this point, but I do know that I'm not willing to take a risk of a few hundred bucks on gas that I will probably end up losing completely rather than making a profit. I will keep a close eye on this to see what will happen though. I mean a 500 dollar profit is still a good amount, and that's not unthinkable, is it?

Should've Could've Would've

I've learned not to think like this anymore, it adds nothing to the actually situation you're in, it can only add negative thoughts about missing out. I rather just focus on creating content to earn some bucks, stake it, compound the rewards and build something that gives me some solid passive income in a while which I can benefit from after we moved to Spain as well.

I don't like doing any transaction that is Ethereum network because of their high transaction rate.

Me neither, it was due to the airdrop a year ago that I actually did transactions to move these funds. After that, I only bought 2 more coins on ETH. As these were the only places where I could buy them. Not keen on doing so, because even if I'd want to sell today, I'd be facing high fees and losing funds. Best to only buy Long term stuff.
