El gracioso árbol cepillo || The funny brush tree [Esp - Eng]

From afar, I had seen this beautiful tree several times, it had always caught my attention, but I had never seen it up close. So one of these days when I went for a walk, I approached it and was amazed by the beauty of its flowers and the garlands hanging from it.

I had no idea what that tree was called, so I took several pictures of it and went to investigate. What was my surprise when I found out that among other names, this tree is known as the crimson bottlebrush, or the red bottlebrush, that made me laugh, it automatically reminded me of the baby bottle I used when my children were little. However, although you could say that the flowers are identical to the aforementioned objects, I never imagined that those could be some of their names. Now, it is worth noting that its scientific name is Melaleuca citrina

Impressively, the spike-like branching, the miniature petals so small that they are barely visible, together with the number and length of its stamens, is what gives the Callistemon flower the characteristic of looking like a brush, whose final detail is given by the anthers that delicately adorn the tips of each of the stamens.

Dried fruits of the Melaleuca citrina tree

The garlands that sprout from crimson bottlebrush are beautiful little brown chains of bells, which to me look very much like one of the materials with which the Venezuelan natives use to make their handicrafts. On the other hand, I think that these garlands could also be used to make beautiful Christmas ornaments, it is all a matter of developing the ideas that one can come up with.

Actually these garlands are nothing more than bunches of fruit from that tree. Each little bell is a dried fruit, that is to say, it has previously gone through its ripening process, changing color from green to brown, and when the fruit dries, it opens and releases the seeds, which are dispersed and give rise to new trees.

As you can see it is a beautiful tree, whose presence, in this case, adorns the vegetable retreat of the sidewalk of that street. It also looks good in gardens and can even be planted in individual pots. In addition this imposing plant also has medicinal properties, for those who wish to know the details about the latter I recommend you to locate this information on the internet in specialized sites.

Finally, I can tell you that I really enjoyed this walk, as well as the fact of taking the photographs that accompany this publication, because as I was taking them, I was feeling a special connection with that plant, which prompted me to look with greater curiosity and interest in certain details of the crimson bottlebrush that in other circumstances I would never have noticed.

I hope you liked this publication and that it serves as motivation to plant a beautiful brush tree on your sidewalks or in your garden

¡Hola @mipiano!
