with limited resources I’m strived between choosing which to participate in. My immediate thought is to first obtain Rift gems to accumulate some sps since the tower defense game isn’t launched yet. It will hurt me to miss out on alpha cards for the tower defense game as well

You are right and your reasoning is more than logical.
I too if I am in the situation of having to choose I will go for the Tower Defense also because I can always buy the cards later from the market while the Promo Hero might be harder to get after the presale
