Mark Twain

Mark Twain was a very prolific writer but I must admit I don't know a whole lot about him or his work. I did read "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn", and liked both books but that's about it.

I recently stumbled upon this quote by him and it really spoke to me. I don't know in what context did Twain say it so I can only speak to my own interpretation of his words.

Even though I know it's impossible, or at least highly unlikely, to excel in every single thing we do, I always try to avoid being mediocre as much as I can. And I believe one way to do that is doing things differently than most people do.

Even before I found out about this Mark Twain quote, I always tried to find different, and often better, ways to do things. I know that, sometimes, there is a reason why there is a road that is more travelled and it's not always wise to pick a different direction than most but you should always contemplate it and decided if there is an opportunity to spot something that most people just can't see.

During my college days, our professor used to discuss this writer. I like his short stories, they are all inspiring.
