Storyline

If she's that talented, we'll groom her. But don't expect much. Her mission is to go and die."
China's Ministry of State Security has an embarrassing problem: 500 Tokarev pistols are being diverted to South Korea instead of going to North Korea. To avoid getting caught, they recruit a female undercover agent known as Yoo Da-hee.

Chao, the team leader, is supposed to brief Yoo about the agent's visit to an office run by a private investigator named Woo Su-han. However, their contact gets into a car accident, which leads to him meeting Yoo instead.

As the investigation proceeds, they start to encounter more bodies. Despite their mismatched characters, Chao and Yoo will not stop at nothing to apprehend the arms smuggling gang.

REVIEW ABOUT THE MOVIE

First, the main leads were great actors, and Lee Sun-Bin and Kim Young-Kwang had great on-screen chemistry. For me, the character of Kim Young-Kwang was a bit silly, but he also fits his image well.

I think that Kim Young-Kwang is a very silly and goofy person, and Lee Sun-Bin is also a great fit as well.

As the brainy secret agent, Lee is a stand-out character. She has a unique and compelling presence. The supporting actors deliver fine performances. Dae Oh-hwan is a bit slimy as the leader of the arms trafficking gang, while Choi Kang is a bit funny as the team leader.
First-time director Kim Jong-hun elevates the comedy element in his films by focusing on developing the characters through various comedic elements.

He doesn’t shy away from delivering over-the-top humor, especially during the climax, which features a violent knife fight. The combination of Lee and Kim as the leads makes this a pleasant surprise, even though the odd couple doesn’t offer much new. The action sequences are also unexpected and will certainly impress.

Although I liked both of them, I think that Lee Kwang-Soo would have been a great choice for the male lead since he and Sun-Bin have a public relationship. Supporting cast members include Kim Dae-Hwan, Lee Byung-Mo, Kim Tae-Hoon, and Park Kwang-Jae.

The movie featured action sequences that are usually not seen in Korea, but they were all executed well. All in all the movie was a good one to watch It reminded me of some of the films that I grew up with, such as The Soul-Mate and Extreme Job.

Although it has over-the-top comedy, it eventually became enjoyable once you got used to it.

There is only one One thing about Mission: Possible that I just didn't like is the humor. I thought it was very childish, and I was not a fan of jokes about sex. It was in line with some of the Korean comedies that are usually over the top, though I do not agree with all of them. I thought it got better as it progressed, though I did not agree with all of its jokes.

A VIEWER REVIEW ABOUT MISSION POSSIBLE

It’s not slapstick humor either. Also, a few of the action scenes are bloody, whether it’s knife-play or gun-play.

I’m surprised South Korea produced such a movie in the action-comedy genre, but it’s a welcome surprise. Just as typical action-comedy films from South Korea, the two leads are bad-asses.

Fiona Mannon says

FACT ABOUT THE MOVIE

The film, which was released on 930 screens in February 17, 2021, remained at the number one spot at the Korean box office for the first week of its release. It collected 26,017 audiences on its first day, and another 23,965 on its second day. On the fourth day, it collected 52,969 viewers. It is currently 11th among the Korean films released in 2021. It made over 3.6 million won ($3,360) in its first week and has a total gross of 447,111 admissions.

Verdict

Action-comedy films usually feature guns and knife-play, and this movie certainly has some bloody action scenes. Despite being labeled as a comedy, it actually has a few bad-asses in the lead roles. It avoids being thrown into the audience’s face like its predecessor.
