THE STUDY OF ELECTRICITY

Electricity was not invented. It was discovered and understood by Benjamin Franklin. Electricity is known to be a natural force. He was a passionate scientist, and he made many discoveries like the bifocal glasses and more while exploring various areas of science. In the mid-17th century, Benjamin Franklin became interested in electricity.

He came up with the idea of electricity flowing between the positive and negative elements. In 1752, he conducted an experiment where he flew a kite attaching a metal key to it while observing a thunderstorm as he believed lightning is a form of a flowing electricity. He connected a metal key to the kite's string to act as a conductor.

When the electricity from the storm clouds reached the string, it produced a shock which proved his theory.

Following Franklin's discovery, other scientists began to study electricity and its various effects. One of them was Thomas Edison, who patented the incandescent light bulb in 1879. After Gilbert's discovery, other scientists started studying electricity. One of them was Thomas Browne, who authored various books about his work.

Browne and Gilbert are known as the first to refer to electricity as a scientific term. Others believe it was invented around 2,000 years ago when a clay pot was discovered. This clay pot, which was found in a field in Pennsylvania, contains copper plates, iron rod and tin alloy indicates that inventors may have been using a similar device to create an electric current.

Electricity is a set of physical phenomena that refers to the presence and motion of matter with a property of electric charge. Some of these include static electricity and electric discharge.

Positive or negative, the presence of an electric charge produces an electric field. The field generates a magnetic field when a charge is placed in a certain location. The magnitude of the electric field's force is determined by the Coulomb's law. If the charge gets moved, the field would carry out the work on the electric charge. This force is equal to the work that an external agent does when a charge gets moved in space.

Modern scientific discoveries about electrical phenomena were carried out during the 17th and 18th centuries. The rapid emergence and expansion of electrical technology during that period transformed society and industry. Its versatility enabled it to be used in various applications such as transportation, heat application and lighting. Electricity is very important in modern indstries

TYPES OF MODERN ELECTRICITY

There are two main types of electricity in the modern science which are the STATIC and
CURRENT ELECTRICITY.

STATIC ELECTRICITY

This is basically rubbing of two objects together to create friction. Static electricity is a type of electrical charge that appears on the surface of materials. It's caused by the rubbing of certain materials together. For instance, if a wool garment is placed on a wall, both the wool and the balloon have neutral charges.

These charges are created by the subatomic particles that interact with each other.
When the wool is rubbed with the balloon, the friction causes it to generate electrons from the wool as the wool and balloon carries different charges and this causes difference in attraction, the balloon then becomes negative while.the wool.becomes positive because the wool losses electron and the balloon gains electron.

2 CURRENT ELECTRICITY

Current is the rate at which electrons move through a conductor. Unlike static electricity, it requires a conductor for the flow of electron. The speed at which the water flows is a measure of the current's flow. Its energy is transferred through the conductor. In a power plant, the spinning of copper wire generates electricity in large quantity.

A basic generator has the ability to.produve electricity when copper turns inside a magnetic field.

There are two main types of electric currents: direct current and alternating current. The former is like the energy that flows from a battery while the latter is the energy that is gotten from plugs in the wall. The Alternative current can be turned off or on and has the ability to reverse the direction of the electrons while Direct current is ever flowing

HOW CURRENT MOVES IN A CIRCUIT

Current is a steady flow of electrons. They carry electrical energy when they move round a circuit, they carry little amount of Electric charge. Current can travel through solid bodies such as metals when their structures allow free electrons to move freely.

However, in rubber, the electrons are bound to a certain region, which makes it hard to carry out electrical work. This means that electricity does not flow through rubber .The force that pushes electrons along a current needs to be strong enough to make the flow happen. This is known as an electromotive force or a voltage

APPLICATION OF ELECTRICITY

One of the most important blessings humanity recieved is electricity. It has become a part of our daily lives and is used for various purposes.

1 factories, machines are powered by electricity. They help in making various essential items, such as food and clothes, more durable and more efficient.

2 Electric cars and trains are also quick and easy to use which makes them useful in the transport system

3 They can also be used for various entertainment activities such as movies and television. Modern technology has also been developed due to their increasing popularity.

4 Household appliances are commonly used for various purposes. Some of these include coffee makers, microwaves, and dishwashers.

There are also various types of electrical appliances used for home use such as air conditioners and heaters. Aside from lighting systems, electricity also powers various other electrical appliances in the home. Aside from transportation, electricity is also used to make various electrical connections globally.
In conclusion .

Due to the increasing consumption of electricity in the industrial sector, businesses have been experiencing frequent power outages that have caused significant financial losses. This issue is expected to happen more frequently as industries look to build their own power plants.
