I've been Hiving all day...

...and my notifications still look like this πŸ™€

That means I'm doing something right, right? Only I need to get faster at it.

@ecency It'd be really helpful if there was an option to show the oldest notification first, and remove the ones that have been acted on or dismissed. I bet it would save me an hour a day, not having to scroll way way down in the list!

Keep it up, you are on the right track :-) I also notcied that I have lost my following to you, so I put it back up (I was sure I already was, I was actually surprised / don't get it). Yeah, for the notifications, I clear them daily, it makes it easier to go through them if it can ever help

Thanks! I did hit the clear button a couple of times when I hadn't been online for several days, but it wasn't a good feeling. I want ALL my notifications! What if I miss replying to someone's important question, and they think I'm being rude? 😿

Thank you! 🍻

I haven't had any alcohol at all since December early morning January 1st. Not for health reasons or anything boring like that - we're trying to save up for some fancy kitchen stuff. Hubby wants a $250 frying pan, and I want some $40 wooden cutting boards that are made from whole wood, not laminated junk that peels off after a month, and more bowls and plates, and some large, airtight storage containers for rice and flour and such. We had to throw out almost 10 kilos of rice, flour, pasta etc the other day, because one tiny package of chapati flour turned out to have brought mealworms with it, and they quickly spread to everything starchy! It'll be a very low-carb diet until we can replace all those. 😹

But now it's a whole new month! I think I'll pilfer that last beer that didn't get drunk on New Year. Cheers! !ALIVE

Yes, I know! And that's very useful when I'm only looking for one kind of notification, but doesn't really speed things up.

In the All view, I get the notifications for the same post next to each other, like NN made a new post, NN mentioned you in this post. Then I can dismiss one, and click through to see the post on the other one. If I use separate feeds I'll have forgotten that I already clicked through to see the post from the other notification, wasting time going there again. So for me, the All view is best, but I'd love an option to have it only show notifications I haven't acted on, with the oldest on top.

Fair point, we will consider improving it in future updates

Thank you! That's all I can ask :)

I do believe such an option would be useful to more people than me, and if it is just an option in the settings, those who prefer the way it works now aren't harmed.

Hello @ecency, what's this new thing?

Regarding the notifications idea I mention in the post and comments above... While hopefully waiting for a solution I came up with this:

  • open any post or page
  • click the notifications button
  • scroll all the way down to the oldest "not-acted-upon" notification
  • right-click to open it in a new tab or window
  • read, reply if needed
  • close that tab/window

Doing that, the old page was still there just as I left it: notifications popout open and scrolled to where I left it so I could quickly open the next, and next, and next posts or click the tiny blue dot to mark something as dealt with, then scroll up a tiny bit every 10 or so notifications to get at the newer ones. Very little time wasted on scrolling!

Today that stopped working. Now when I get back to the original page, the notification popout is still open, but the list has refreshed itself and I have to scroll all the way down again which takes anywhere between 5 and 15 seconds. 😿

Cheers, and have a great weekend! I'm not expecting a quick reply on this, having written it on a Saturday afternoon :)

It was always working such way, notification list auto updates if while you are scrolling there is new notification that comes in. We can perhaps improve that logic as well while adding different sorting options

Please, pretty please, do! ❀️

For me, it never did update while scrolling or viewing another page until today. I just came back to say it's ANNOYING. I scrolled and scrolled and was near my goal: the oldest of the notifications - and it refreshed on me so I had to start over! That has never happened to me before. And I'd be very happy if it never happened again.

Imagine someone like me... 230+ notifications to go through. Even if I use your "latest first" idea, I'll have to scroll and scroll to get to them all, because the ones I do want to get at get farther and farter down the list the more new ones come in
. Age before beauty, please ;)

I tend to open them up by type, so look at replies, then mentions etc, saves me a bit of time!

I tried that, and it actually takes me longer πŸ™€
In the All view, I get the notification for NN made a new post, NN mentioned you in the post next to each other, so I can dismiss one and click the other. If I view Mentions and Favourites as separate feeds, I'll click on both because I've forgotten that I already took a look at that post.
And there's still a bunch of scrolling to get to the oldest "not-acted-upon" notification, even as separate feeds.

hehe, ah well I guess keep playing around and see what is fastest!

!LUV

Right now I'm experimenting with scrolling down to the bottom of the feed, clicking the blue dot to mark a notification as read, then right-clicking to open the link in a new window. When I close that window, the old one with the notifications pop-down scrolled to the right place is still there.

It is a little bit faster, except for when I need to refer to something in a tab in the original window - so I do hope this is temporary, and that @ecency will like my idea of an option to show oldest first and hiding "used" notifications.

When you make a post, it'll end up under the Posts tab on your profile

If you want the post to appear under the Blog tab you'll have to click the Advanced button at the bottom of the page where you write the post

Then check the button that says Reblog

I hope that helped!

You can try the PEAKD interface: it saves time (at least, it happens in my mode of using the platformπŸ€—).

Thanks for the suggestion. I did use Peakd when I got started, and I pop over there sometimes to check things - HSBI and such - but Ecency somehow feels better. Neither is perfect, but I get less annoyed with Ecency. 😹
