Silver Olympic Torch Relay

(Edited)

Today's silver piece is something I briefly showed a couple weeks ago. From afar, it looks like two naked gay dudes exchanging a big dildo:

Jokes aside, this is a commemorative silver plate issued by the Greek Postal service for the 2004 Olympics that took place in Greece.

The plates depict one naked male athlete passing the Olympic torch to the other

The Olympic torch relay is a tradition in which the Olympic flame is transported from Olympia, Greece to the host city of the Olympic Games. The flame is lit at the Temple of Hera in Olympia, and then transported to the host city via a relay of runners who carry the torch. The relay typically begins several months before the start of the Olympic Games, and is designed to build excitement and anticipation for the event. The final leg of the relay is a ceremonial torch run through the host city, leading up to the opening ceremony of the games. (source: chatgbt)

In ancient Greece athletes were supposedly naked when doing sports and shit so I guess this is why they are portrayed naked. It would be hilarious if that continued on modern days. 🤣

In case you wonder, the plates read "ΔΙΕΛΕΥΣΗ ΟΛΥΜΠΙΑΚΗΣ ΦΛΟΓΑΣ" for Olympic flame relay. The Olympic logo reads "ΑΘΗΝΑ 2004" for Athens 2004.

As for the silver, it's 15 grams of .950 per plate. A beautiful piece with a respectable amount of silver. Not bad!

Ok that's your silver dose for today

Stack on!

🤣 they are nice pieces, I had a look to see if we have junk silver and things like this in Australia but they're all labelled "rare" and sell for a premium over spot price. $8 worth if silver selling for $50 🤣

There's this thing about people not minding being naked in the old Greek days.

Those are shiny metals.

To think they were running completely naked. It's unimaginable these days.)

Did they really perform naked in the original Olympics? I know the supposed history, but that doesn't really seem like a optimal way for athletes to perform (pun not intended).

Anyway, cool silver!

It looks great but I do agree that those guys are basically naked. I guess there is only the 2004 version because the Olympics being placed in the same place is kind of rare.
