I had wanted to attend the gospel musical concert "The Experience" for quite sometime but never did due to the demands and busy schedule at my former place of work. "The Experience" is one of the most highly anticipated musical concerts in Nigeria and is organised annually by Pastor Ayo Adefarasin, the founder and senior pastor of House on the Rock. It always paraded renowned international and indigenous gospel artistes like Don Moen, Travis Greene, Donnie McClurkin, Nathaniel Bassey, Tim Godfrey and Tope Alabi to mention a few. A major attraction of this event was that entry into the venue of the concert was free and this made it possible for anyone who wants to be part of the concert to attend.

I had the opportunity to attend "The Experience" gospel concert in 2017 and grabbed it with both hands! I had switched jobs at that period and had more time for myself in my new job. The concert was to hold on Friday, in the first week of December. I made deliberate efforts to free my schedule so that I can attend the concert. The scheduled day for the concert eventually arrived and all roads led to the Tafawa Balewa Square, Onikan, Lagos. There was heavy traffic on all routes that led to the venue of the concert. I later learnt from an acquaintance I met at the concert that attendees of the event usually get to the venue as early as 12pm in the afternoon to secure their seats! I was blown away by this revelation! I knew that the concert was huge but not at this magnitude! I closed relatively early from work that day and proceeded to the venue of the concert.

The concert had began before I arrived at the venue and I was overwhelmed by the large audience. I still got to watch amazing performances from the artistes billed to perform. It was not long after my arrival that Tim Godfrey and his choir came on stage to perform. It was an electrifying and a energetic performance that held us captivated . The choir exhibited great vocal prowess and finesse to the admiration the audience. It was a great performance! Other artistes performed after Tim Godfrey and also gave a good account of themselves. One notable mention of these performances was that of Travis Greene. He received a great reception when he came on stage most especially from youths in the audience. It seemed like he was the artiste most of them wanted to see perform and he did not disappoint. His performance took the audience to another level as they sang along while he performed.

The concert also had a lot of vendors and companies that utilised the event to market and sell their products and services. Guinness one of the beverage companies at the event gave out free drinks of one their beverages called Orijin to the audience. It turned out to be one of the major highlights of the concert as there was consistent supply of free drinks throughout the concert. Prominent clergyman like Pastor Yomi Kasali and Rev Mike Okonkwo were also in attendance and led the audience in a series of prayer sessions. The Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Abode was also present and received an award for his social reforms programmes in education.

Nathaniel Bassey was the next artiste to perform and led the audience in a series of praise and worship songs. His performance just has a way of appealing and uplifting the spirits of it's audience. The climax of the concert for me was when Don Moen came on stage to perform. The reception he got was amazing. His performance was great and got the audience singing to every song him sang at the top of their voices. It was the grand performance of the concert! Tope Alabi was given the responsibility to close the concert and that was what she did! She gave us a good feel of indigenous praise and worship songs that set the us in a frenzy. It was a befitting way to end this wonderful concert! The concert came to an end and I really had a great time.

I commend the organisers of this remarkable event for the effort they put in to make it happen. It is indeed an awesome event that a lot of people like myself look forward to with excitement.

Thanks for reading,
Have a great day folks.

When I was at Lagos, I never got the opportunity to attend live but I used to sit back at home and watch "the experience" live. It's always amazing as you just flow in the spirit as the praises and worship continue. I have put it in my bucket list to attend this amazing event in person and also get to feel the experience 😁
