Don't Miss the Fun in Splinterlands

While the the "earn" component of play to earn NFT gaming seems to be louder than the "play" component, the fact remains that the play is the base layer. Rewards were only built in to compensate for the data cost and perhaps time spent in the game, again, to give blockchain technology an edge over web2 counterparts.

Research evidences hold valid that games are essential for healthy mental development in early childhood and beyond. Play has a way of stirring creativity in humans and allow them to experiment by trial and error, sort solutions to problems, select the best strategies, and build new confidence and skills. Staying on with earning without maximizing the play component of games is missing out of the main thing.

Indeed, I see the fun in playing games as an NFT priced above money. There is actually no way we can quantify and monetize the value we get from clearing a rowdy brain and building a healthy mind through games.

Splinterlands is a growing guild of play to earn NFT games with genre ranging from battle to sports. While there is a lot of buzzing around the profits that come with engaging the gaming platform, there are lots of fun in trying out the gameplay. I didn't discover that until I started playing battles. Now, I'm prepared to actively engage the gameplay dimensions of Tower Defense and Genesis league Goals.

Battle Mage Secrets - Broken Arrows Ruleset

I checked out Splinterlands to get acquainted with the new updates in the game and ended up playing some handful of battles and luckily, I drew a "Broken Arrows" ruleset that was defined for this week's Battle Mage Secret Challenge. Here's the Battle link.

"Broken Arrows" battle ruleset disallows the use of Monsters with ranged attacks. That means only monsters with melee and magic attacks can be used. All ranged attack monsters automatically disappear from the card formation deck. Secondly, the ruleset also disallows the use of Monsters with 2 types of attack (which include ranged).

All elements were active, so I choose the Water element summoner and monsters. The battle was tagged with 12 manna cap. My line up for the battle are as follows:

  • Lead Monster: Ice Pixie
  • Second Monster: Deeplurker

Ice Pixie is a magic attack monster with flying ability with just 2 manna, 1 health and 3 speed ratings. The card's ability allows it to evade melee attack from non-flying monsters. Since he battle ruleset disallowed the use of ranged attack monsters, Ice pixie would be quite effective in the battle.

Deeplurker is a melee attack monster with opportunity ability with 6 manna, 6 health and 2 speed ratings. It's ability allows it to attack from any position in the battle line.

The enemy's team looked rather weak with just two monsters out of which only only one was an attacking monster. Shockingly, the lead monster in the enemy team had the "demoralize" ability which reduced the melee attack of Deeplurker by -1. This only made the battle last longer than necessary.

My choice summoner had added +1 speed and +1 armor to my two monsters. Screenshots below show the outlook of the battle field at the start and end of the battle as well as the rewards received from the performance.

The battle lasted for Four rounds. It was a win battle for my team and this happened with my both monsters still staying strong with their initial health ratings.

For me, the combination of a magic and melee attack monsters is a superb one for me. Especially that Deeplurker had the opportunity ability that helps it strike big from any position in the battlefield. For a low manna cap battle, I'd recommend that lineup again.

Broken arrows rule set was awesome. It benefits players using magic attack monsters more.

Final Words

I am not just sharing in the wealth that Splinterlands game brings to us, I do not want to miss out from the fun too. Fun is a currency that is priced above money.

Splinterlands game is termed the "next generation of collectible card games" in which allows players to collect, trade, and battle with provably scarce digital collectibles with real-world value. Battles on Splinterlands Unlike most trading card games, are fast and furious, and are usually completed within few minutes. The Splinterlands gameplay is simple and easy to learn viz: reviewing combat rules, making and submitting of the team and watching the battle unfold.
