Kilimli Bay, Ağva, İstanbul [ENG-TUR]

Entrances to forest areas were prohibited until the end of August in July, first in Istanbul and then throughout Turkiye. Many people like me had to change their weekend activities for this reason. I couldn't discover new places due to the ban, thus I thought to make a nostalgia. Within this period, I prepared two posts about the places where I have been to in the previous years. The second one is the Kilimli Bay in Ağva holiday resort, which is connected to Şile district of Istanbul, and which I visited in August 2020.

Temmuz ayı içinde önce İstanbul’da daha sonra tüm Türkiye’de ormanlık alanlara girişler Ağustos ayı sonuna kadar yasaklandı. Bu nedenle benim gibi birçok kişi haftasonu faaliyetlerini değiştirmek zorunda kaldı. Yasak nedeniyle yeni yerler keşfedemeyince, ben de nostalji yapayım dedim. Bu süreçte önceki yıllarda gittiğim yerlerle ilgili iki tane yazı hazırladım. Bunlardan ikincisi bu yazımda bahsedeceğim, 2020 yılı Ağustos ayında gittiğim, İstanbul’un Şile ilçesine bağlı Ağva tatil beldesinde bulunan, Kilimli Koyu’dur.

It was the first months and the first summer of the pandemic. The first normalization had begun, but restrictions for many things, especially for travelling, continued. Everyone was just learning about the pandemic. The answers to the questions such as whether there is infection in open area or infection in a sea were not clear. Instead of staying at home during the Eid al-Adha holiday, we thought to go somewhere with friends and have a picnic and barbecue. A friend recommended this place, we researched it on the internet, we liked it and we decided to go.

Pandemin ilk ayları ve ilk yazıydı. İlk normalleşme başlamış ama birçok şey, özellikle seyahat için kısıtlamalar devam ediyordu. Herkes pandemiyi daha yeni yeni öğreniyordu. Açık alanda bulaşma olur mu, denizde bulaşma olur mu gibi soruların cevabı net değildi. Kurban Bayramı tatilinde evde oturmaktansa arkadaşlarla bir yere gidip piknik ve mangal yapalım dedik. Burayı bir arkadaş tavsiye etmişti, internetten araştırdık beğendik ve gitmeye karar verdik.

Since Kilimli Bay is close to the provincial border of Kocaeli, it is almost 2 hours away from us. For this reason, we took the necessary materials for picnic and barbecue in the evening and set off early in the morning. After passing Şile, you continue the Ağva road that goes through the forest to arrive Kilimli Bay. It was a bit cloudy when we left in the morning, but luckily it cleared up towards noon. In most this road to Ağva, you pass through the forest. There are irregularities, narrowings and sharp bends in some parts of the road. That's why you need to drive carefully.

Kilimli Koyu Kocaeli il sınırına yakın olduğu için bize uzaklığı hemen hemen 2 saat. Bu nedenle piknik ve mangal için gerekli olan malzemeleri akşamdan alıp sabah erkenden yola çıktık. Kilimli Koyu’na gitmek için Şile’yi geçtikten sonra orman içinden giden Ağva yolundan devam ediyorsunuz. Sabah giderken hava biraz kapalıydı ama neyseki öğlene doğru açtı. Ağva’ya giden yolda bu şekilde, yolun büyük bir kısmında ormanın içinden geçiyorsunuz. Yolun bazı kısımlarında bozukluk, daralma ve keskin virajlar var. O yüzden dikkatli sürüş gerekiyor.

We arrived around 11 o'clock, it was crowded even though we went early. People had already settled in places that were good for picnic and camping. As far as I could see, there were people coming here for daily trip as well as camping for a few days. So we parked the car and started searching for a suitable place, but as I said, all the good places were full. We found a place that wasn't very good but had a view and we settled here. We were very hungry as we didn't have breakfast in the morning. We quickly lit the samovar and set our table. We thought to explore the area for a while until the tea was brewed, and we run into these landscapes.

Saat 11 gibi varmıştık, erken gitmemize rağmen kalabalıktı. Piknik veya kamp yapmak için iyi olan yerlere insanlar önceden yerleşmişti. Gördüğüm kadarıyla buraya günü birlik gelenler kadar birkaç günlüğüne kamp yapmaya gelenler de vardı. Biz de arabayı park edip uygun bir yer aramaya başladık, ama dediğim gibi bütün güzel yerler dolmuştu. Çok da iyi olmayan ama manzarası olan bir yer bulup yerleştik. Sabah kahvaltı yapmadığımız için çok açıkmıştık. Hemen semaveri yakıp masamızı kurduk. Çay demlenene kadar biraz keşfe çıkalım dedik, karşımıza bu manzaralar çıktı.

Having taken a few photos, we went back and had our breakfast. Resting and chatting for a while, we wanted to see the other sides of the bay and the beach. First of all, let me state that the place where we entered was above the bay. That is, you have to go down the steep slopes to go to the bay and the beach. Going down these steep slopes could be dangerous for everyone, especially older people. As far as we could see, you might get hurt even if you go down from the most flat part of the slope. I think the negative side of Kilimli Bay is that steep slope.

Birkaç resim çektikten sonra geri dönüp kahvaltımızı yaptık. Biraz dinlenip sohbet ettikten sonra koyun diğer taraflarını ve kumsalı görmek istedik. Öncelikle şunu belirteyim, bizim giriş yaptığımız yer koyun üstünde kalıyor. Yani koya ve sahile gidebilmek için dik yamaçlardan aşağı inmek gerekiyor. Bu dik yamaçlardan inmek başta yaşlı insanlar olmak üzere herkes için tehlikeli olabilir. Gördüğümüz kadarıyla en iyi inelecek yerde bile zarar görme ihtimaliniz var. Bence Kilimli Koyu’nun en olumsuz tarafı bu.

We continued on the path you see in the photo above. I went down as far as I could and took photos of this wonderful sightseeing in the left side of the bay and enjoyed it. This is not a Greek or an Italian island or a beach in the American continent. This is a magnificent bay in Istanbul, which is close to the Kocaeli border.

Yukardaki resimde gördüğünüz patika gibi yoldan devam ettik. Aşağıya inebildiğim kadar inip koyun sol tarafında bulunan bu harika manzaranın resimlerini çekip keyfini çıkardım.Burası bir Yunan adası, bir İtalyan adası veya Amerika kıtasında bir sahil değil. Burası Kocaeli sınırına yakın İstanbul’da muhteşem bir koy.

Having swum in the sea and cooling off, so to speak, we climbed back the steep slopes and returned to where we had settled. After the barbecue, we lit the samovar. We stayed here for about 5 hours in total, then we left before the evening as we had a long way to go. There is an admission fee for vehicles at the entrance to Kilimli Bay. I could not see any facility, WC or shower cabin in the area. Also, there is no one who collects the garbage left by people. There is no service in returne for the fee charged at the entrance. Kilimli Bay is a place that is mostly preferred by campers due to its rugged terrain. Perhaps, there is an entrance to the beach from a flat place. I liked Kilimli Bay very much, but I couldn't go again because it is far away. If I go again, this time I will only go for the beach.

Denize girip serinledikten sonra tekrar dik yamaçları tabiri caizse tırmanarak konakladığımız yere döndük. Mangalı yaptıktan sonra semaveri yaktık. Burda toplamda yaklaşık 5 saat kaldıktan sonra yolumuz uzun olduğu için akşam olmadan ayrıldık. Kilimli Koyu’na girişte araç için ücret alınıyor. Alanda herhangi bir tesis, WC veya duş alma kabini göremedim. Ayrıca insanların bıraktığı çöpleri toplayan da yok. Girişte alınan ücretin karşılığında herhangi bir hizmet yok. Kilimli Koyu engebeli arazisi nedeniyle daha çok kamp yapanların tercihi olan bir yer. Belki düzayak başka bir yerden sahile giriş vardır. Ben Kilimli Koyu’nu çok beğenmiştim, ama uzak olduğu için bir daha gidemedim. Tekrar gidersem bu kez sadece sahili için gideceğim.

Forests are one of the natural beauties of our country and our world, and also the future of us humans. If we protect our forests, we can prevent such bans in the coming years. Thus, no one's alternative holiday or social activities can be restricted during the years we have been struggling due to the economic crisis.
