Ghajini 2008, became the first Bollywood film to net over ₹100 crore domestically in India. It was really a great achievement back then. Then we have Bahubali : The Conclusion to cross over 2000 Crores Worldwide. Dangal another Amir Khan movie to cross 1000 Crores worldwide.
Salman Khan's Sultan and Bajrangi Bhaijan gained over 300 crores at Indian Box-office.

That is quite an interesting statistics on the topic of cinema. All the Khans have made their global economies for cinema. 1000 crore rupees is quite an alarming amount of money to be collected from the movies. Some times i feel that calculations should be made around the actual viewers and how much money can be really collected from sale of tickets because their may not be so many theatres in India to justify these numbers and those watching pirated donot count towards revenue

Yes this would really be an interesting aspect to learn. There are 6300 single screens and 3200 multiplexes. I think if a movie is released on 10000 screens at a time, then it requires the business of only 100 thousand to reach the mark of Rs100 crores. Considering the average price of Rs 300 at multiplexes only 333 people need to watch the movie. But the catch would be in the single screens where tickets are low and most of the Indians watch movies in single screen. Here atleast 1000 people need to watch.
