New Airdropped Cards Revealed - But Are They Worth It in Silver?

In last night’s Town Hall, the @splinterlands team revealed the next two cards to be released in the Chaos Legion Airdrops - the first for the General Sale! Now, I’m a Silver player, and I have been creating blog posts focusing on the new cards specifically at the Silver Level, so the question I want to answer today is: Do these cards matter in Silver, or can I skip them?

If like me you’re in Silver, there’s a high chance you are not a whale. You’re not buying 500+ packs, and you’re certainly not going to be maxing out every card. This means we have to look at the opportunity cost of choosing to buy this card vs other alternatives, as well as their raw stat values! Is this card essential, or is there a cheaper replacement that lets you build up elsewhere and buy more relevant cards to your position?

Airdrop 1: Iza the Fanged

First of all, I want to take a look at the new Earth Legendary, Iza the Fanged:

A Ranged Damage, Scavenge, Mid Mana Cost Monster in Earth.. Where have I seen this before? If your answer was “in my Daily Chests”, you’d be right!

Enter Venari Seedsmith. Let’s compare the two:
Venari Seedsmith has 3 damage, Iza has 2
Iza has 4 Speed, Seedsmith has 3
They both have Scavenge
Iza has Sneak
Iza costs one less Mana

That’s all the difference there is at the Silver levels! Level 2 Iza is very comparable to a Level 4 Seedsmith, a card I very rarely see played at the Silver Tier. Now, Sneak is a very powerful ability, I will accept that. But in what team does Iza fit? She’s not Magic Damage for Obsidian, Earth isn’t known for its Sneak Damage to build a full Backline-Focused team, and there is no Ranged Summoner in Earth. Iza has no real space to fit in at the moment, and is compatible to a card that is only $0.15 per BCX. If we take Iza to be around a similar price to Uriel on launch, she will be 100x more expensive, for quite negligible upsides at the Silver Level! If you’re a Silver player and get airdropped this card, I’d have a long think about if I really wanted this, or $15 in a more useful area to my collection.

Airdrop 2: Lira the Dark

Secondly, we have the Death Legendary, Lira the Dark:

First of all, this card has no easily accessible direct comparison like Seedsmith was to Iza. This means we’ll have to look purely on the stats Lira has. And they are good! 3 Ranged Damage on an Opportunity Monster, alongside very good Speed, could mean a very quick kill onto your opponents squishy Support or Damage Dealing Monsters, before they can even move! Lira is also a safe option right at the back, Vulnerable to Sneak attacks, as she will have a fairly solid Dodge chance with her high Speed. The Death Splinter is also quite commonly a backline focusing Splinter, so Opportunity Monsters like Lira are very at home! In direct contrast to Iza, I think Lira is an incredible card at the Silver Level, and a great long term investment too as if you are ever in Gold, she gains Swiftness, an incredibly powerful ability! I would be holding and airdropped Liras, and certainly considering Levelling her up too!

To Sum Up

The TL;DR of my post is this: Iza is very much in my eyes a card for the higher levels. In Silver I would not be levelling her, or probably even keeping her. Lira on the other hand, is amazing, and I would definitely consider pushing her up to Level 2!
