Midnight gems session 2.png

For those of you that are new to my MidNight Gems series. Welcome to this nightly trip on which we will uncover & recover some amazing songs & covers.

How time flies when you have a life. Friday already, guess we better get started. The 11th Episode is taking off and I think it might be a little bit of a weird one....just a gut feeling.

Now this first song is fairly new and very impressive if you ask me, and I know you didn´t but it's my show. And it´s not because of the amazing lyrics, the pretty voice or the cool guitar riffs.....well not only. Just check out Sina-Drums she´s a little big gem.

Julia Giampietro - Bloom feat. @sina-drums (Official Video)

Sina reminds me of Jack´s sister, but she also reminded me of how few girls that do not sing but play an instrument get to become the star. You have that crazy violinist Lindsey and then a whole lot of nothing and then this Saxy Lady came to mind.

Candy Dulfer & David A. Stewart - Lily Was Here

Let´s stay Saxy and let´s get some more Candy, in this case Dana Colley provides the Candy playing the Sax.....and he could even play two at the same time.

Morphine - Candy

Iggy Pop´s Brick By Brick album was introduced to me by Candy. The album was amazing, and I guess so was Candy. Candy is a phantom from Iggy´s past a teenage girl with whom he had an estranged relationship back when Iggy was 23.
Now why do I not play the original with Kate Pierson.....because I have always found Kate a good-looking scream queen.....But Christine Hyde next to Iggy...that is Eye Candy.

Iggy Pop & Christine Hynde (The Pretenders) - Candy

Well, to keep it nice and sweet, here is some more Candy and you do not even have to trick or treat. Sorry Robbie is just one of my guilty pleasures....

Robbie Williams - Candy

Prince had a guilty pleasure as well. When Prince wants Sax, he called Candy and Candy girl would come running, because who could say NO to the Partyman?
BTW do they still make videos like this?

Prince - Partyman (Extended Version)

Okay that´s enough Sax & Candy, now I want more brass and some Bob.

Just a little personal detail: A friend of my brother told me that this song reminded my Bro of our skiing holidays.....it took me some time to remember that I indeed brought this tape on a trip....but I never brought it back home with me. I think it was stuck in my brother's walkman.

NOFX - Bob

Back in those days, life was so simple; No drama. No money. Nowhere to go. Couldn't ask for anything more. Just chill and enjoy the trip to the pawn shop.

Sublime - Pawn Shop

As I said before if you have a Gem you think I should play or at least listen to drop them in the comments. I think I got this one some weeks ago from @killerwot sometimes it takes me a bit to find a fit, but tonight is crazy enough to play some terrestrials.

Inner Terrestrials - Movin on

Okay, that is it, I never expected to end my midnight gems with the same song I often ended my Saturday Night sessions in the club with. But I for old times sake a Bro Hymn, or should I say the Lowlands Theme Song.

Bro hymn-Pennywise

Now as it´s Midnight I can´t leave you all hanging all hyped up. So I guess a little encore would not hurt. And as you probably did not take my advice and checked out SINA Drums here is a little bedtime story.

Riddle Me This

This is the no longer new topic in my written radio show. But it will be returning each week if nobody was able to guess my Tune Tune Train Riddle before this show.

In my Tune Tune Train sessions, I play 3 songs and it´s up to you dear reader to figure out what connects these songs. If you have a clue, just drop it in the comments and the first one that gets it right will get an honorable mention and an Ecency Boost.

The connections can be as crazy as I am. Last week the connection was that all three artists had a huge hit about Roses. The week before all songs had appeared in my Midnight gems Session Episode 5. It can be easy as pie or hard as a rock, and I hope you enjoy my little riddles.

Nobody guessed it so far, so here we go.

This week´s songs were:

1

2

3

Now you got this hint already:
Orange (as in the color, not the fruit).
William the Silent, now if that is not a dead giveaway.....

Did I just make it too easy, or more difficult 😁

All these gems were added to the YouTube playlist.

What the fluff are midnight gems?

Somewhere lost in time, trying to escape out of the rabbit hole back into the rat race there is a vacuum..... that´s the place where midnight gems are found.

My Midnight Gems will try to uncover & recover those beautiful songs that nobody ever noticed or might have been forgotten.

Who the fluff am I?

Being a former DJ playing about everything and having an uncompleted study of radio journalism. I have been wanting to do this for years...Thought about it many nights and guess now it´s time to finally take it to the streets.

Hope you enjoyed tonight's show, if you don´t want to miss a Midnight Gems Session just put TAG in the comments and I will add you to the list. Because the next Midnight Gems Session is coming soon.

If I listen to sina-drums I am not sure how I will solve the riddle, maybe go back to sax songs... and continue thinking about the ttt :D

I don´t know poo about piano (except that I love how it can sound in the right hands), and even less about drums but when I read what she wrote in the intro of that song....she sold it...well that and of course the fact that it´s a very nice dream piece of music 😇

You will solve it if you were able to link William the Silent back to William of Orange the answer is right in front of you.

Some cool songs - and commentary - I wasn't able to listen to all of them in full. I did enjoy Sinadrums... those women can play!!! Gave Chrissie Hynd and Iggy Pop a listen too but I felt that he didn't give her the space on stage... the balance was out... he was too overpowering and loud... such a shame really as she has a great voice! Nice that you can bring your DJing to the blockchain in this way. I dropped in from Dreemport this evening. #dreemer for life
