What the Fairy Tale Song is Filk?

Dear Reader, before you, might say I am milking this song... I will not give you the chance to do so.
Now why do I say that, because I will write my first (and possibly last) Three Tunes Tuesday this Tuesday and it will be included there as well.

I am not sure what is should think about Three Tunes Tuesday. Part of me thinks it´s a lazy format, and if that means that I am stepping on some toes so be it. Or maybe 🤔 I am just a music snob and this TTT the perfect way for people to start blogging about music and sharing amazing songs. I guess I will just have to try it.

The thing that bugs me most about it is that I think there are many more original ways to write articles using music.

Such as The Spread The Vibes challenge #spreadthevibes that @edje made me aware of through this post.

And as I enjoy doing things just a little different, and STV has no real rules, this will be my reaction to my own Three Tunes Tuesday post that I still have to finish and publish.

Now back to the song I plan to milk. This song will be included in my TTT but it will not be the main character. Hence it needed its own post.

Now let me tell you WhyWhy.

It is not because of the fact that this song has probably all the ingredients to make me love it:
A female voice, a good story, dreamy mid-evil musical influences, and a touch of witchy magic, just like this next song.

The Shadows - Alina de Brocéliande

That song ticks all the boxes, and I loved it straight away...it has that magical storytelling power. It´s slightly haunting while having a darkish beauty, but it is not the song that truly amazed me this week.

For years I have been wondering where my love of this type of music came from, and I think I found it. I think this is where my love for this type of music originated.

Mike Oldfield ft. Maggie Reilly - Moonlight Shadow

The trees that whisper in the evening, carried away by a moonlight shadow. It was probably the first fairy tale song I ever heard and it never let me go (although it took me years to figure out who the artist was I just remembered that voice of Maggie).

I always thought of them as Fairy Tale songs, and it probably explains my love for Leonard Cohen. Within Temptation, Nick Cave to name but a few.

Few do Fairy Tale songs better than Ayreon and Nightwish. So how about mixing those two to get you that powerful Fairy Tale song experience?

Ayreon Universe – Merlin's Will

Still, that was not my Amazing discovery, I tell you what as.
As I like it darker. I was writing a very dark story and doing my musical research when I came across this song.
It introduced me to a genre I never heard of before. But I am very sure you will hear more about it soon. Filk songs, no I am not making this up.

Filk music is a musical culture, genre, and community tied to science fiction, fantasy, and horror.

Guess I have just found my next level of dark fairytale songs and that is why I am shilling the next song this week.

Darkness - Julia Ecklar

How can I not love a song that talks about;

There's a darkness out between the stars that any eye can see
There's a deeper dark within me, where no light will ever be
There's an empty place beside me where my lover ought to stand
And there's a burning sun before me, and the throttle's in my hand

This was 1983, and thanks to the internet it is still available to all of us.

Fairy Tale Song lovers eat your heart out because there are many more gems created by this Artist. And a full post pending on this old, but for me, new genre called Filk.

All your selections are sleek!!!

Each of them was played...luckily I had my earpod on already hehe...

and erm @whywhy... I was suggesting something and thinking at same time... just dropping in from Dreemport regarding your post that was submitted today. You quoted from the lyrics of a song, and for Dreemport's purposes, in order to keep the citation of lyrics within fair use and not transgress copyright infringement, it needs to be reduced to a single verse if you would like it to remain in Dreemport this evening and be progressed through to public curation for tomorrow.

Of course we would love to see it remain in Dreemport today hehe. Please could you get back to me or kenechukwu before the Port closes tonight in just under 90 minutes for submissions, and let us know whether you are changing the post or not so that a decision can be taken to remove the post or push it through for you. thank you in advance 🤗"

I anticipate your response...ciao

Well I couldn´t get back to you and was not aware, but if that is a rule then unfortunately I was not aware. No worries, if it was removed I will adapt and upload again today. Thanks for letting me know.

I will write my first (and possibly last) Three Tunes Tuesday this Tuesday and it will be included there as well.

Welcome to Three Tune Tuesday, it's great to have you joining us and hopefully it will not be your last time, as you will hopefully spark up a few friendships here and maybe discover new music. All the music may not be to your taste, but I find that if you are willing to listen to them all, you unearth some gems, meet some really cool people and hear peoples insights into songs, their lives, their culture. Just have a read of some of the posts and you will see what I mean.

You're not stepping on any toes my friend, isn't it great to have an opinion and not be afraid to share it, whether or not people like it or agree with it or not. It would be a very boring and mundane existence if we all agreed about everything.

I started off Three Tune Tuesdays just over a year ago, as I liked the idea of sharing a few songs and thoughts and always invited others to do likewise, for the first 6 months it was just me and my weekly posts (never missed a week) but then little by little others joined and we have a nice little community now who gather each Tuesday to share Three tunes and I must say that I really enjoy it - the tunes, the interactions, the engagement, the support I can give to minnows every week (as I upvote every entry with a full upvote and many contributions are from users with <500 HP) So for me it is a great endeavor and definitely not lazy, as it takes me three or four hours (sometimes more) to listen to the tunes, comment on them and make this post. So there you have it a bit of perspective from my side.

The thing that bugs me most about it is that I think there are many more original ways to write articles using music.

Excellent stuff, #spreadthevibes by @edje is a great initiative and I will try to find the time to join some week, and @edje is one of those who supported me and commented in those early days when I felt like I was talking into the ether.

Now onwards to your tunes, which I must say I really enjoyed, in fact more than most (if not all this week) and you introduced me to a new genre in Filk, which I must say is a genre that I like based on the tunes that you have shared with us.

Hopefully we'll see you back with more tunes, as your post had a great narrative to it interspersed with the tunes, which I really enjoyed.

First of all, I have to give you credit for an amazing and elaborate comment....BIG WOW!
And I guess my writing was not clear as this was not my TTT post, but my share the vibes post as a reply to my TTT post which I posted today....as mentioned I love to do things a little different😇

Now I am very happy I did not step on any toes, especially not yours as you started a great thing. It´s just that I love to incorporate music in my posts, and write musical posts ( I have written at least 80 Midnight Gems Sessions and many personal stories with a soundtrack) hence for me the format is a little lazy but I love to see people sharing the music they love.... and nothing but respect for you going over all those TTT´s each week!

So it is just my personal perspective and opinion that makes me call it a lazy format. Of course, I should twist that perspective and challenge myself to come up with a warped version of a TTT.

And just once more WOW I loved the comment!
