HIVE-NAIJA: MY SECONDARY SCHOOL EXPERIENCES

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog at this hour. It's a brand new week and I'm going to kick off this week with the Hive Naija Weekly Contest. What a way to get the week going! I had amazing moments in all tiers of my education with different characters from the Nursery to the University.

If my educational journey was a movie or novel I'd be a dynamic character - that is, I developed from being the Chief Disturber of the Class (I didn't have the nerves to terrorize the whole school lol) to an easy going young man in the University. Well, sit back, relax and enjoy all that I have packaged for your reading pleasure.

I'm going to keep my story short but yet entertaining.

My brothers and sisters, it's true that looks may be deceiving - I'm a living witness 😂. I belong to a clique of about three guys in my class and we take the back row in the classroom. We disrupt and distract other students with sounds, noises and especially throwing of chalks to students who seem to be to serious than their mates. Lol. This is mostly done when the teachers back is facing the class, that is, he or she is writing on the chalk board.

The student that the chalk hits would try to get the teachers attention and eventually we may get punished but this doesn't deter us from doing it again. We often get summoned to the staff room to get flogged or to serve our punishments.

One other notable experience I can remember in my secondary school is one that have to do with socks. The official socks of the school is white socks with green strips but as stubborn students we wear black socks on top of the white one and this is a punishable offence in the school. We are always at alert anytime we spot the Principal. Sometimes we get unlucky that he will run after us and catch at least one person who will mention the name of the others. The punishment will be saved till the next day during the assembly. You will be forced to hug a pillar whilst you are being beaten publicly.

Fast forward to when it was time to choose Prefects in Senior Secondary School 2 (SSS 2), the three of us showed our interests to become Prefects - no doubts we were brilliant but the only problem is that we are stubborn. When it was time for the screening exercise, we all dressed appropriately to the surprise of the teachers. They couldn't believe we can do the right thing without being forced to. To cut the long story short, our interview was like a comic relief to them. You know the reaction people give to a politician that everyone knows will embezzle the public funds - that is exactly what we got. We were promising to be punctual, to dress well, organize interschool quiz competition among others. They were just laughing and making jest of us. We all got the we will get back to you remarks. It was a crazy moment.

Let me leave the bad part and highlight the good one too. I was the best student in Commerce in SS 1, 2 and 3 and also added CRS to my prizes in SS 3. Not bad, right? Those moments when your head will be swelling and the runner-up will be beefing you in his or her mind. It was always competitive tho. I represented the school at some events alongside some other school mates at one point or the other too.

In the higher institution, no one told me not to combine disturbing the peace of the class with my academics, it was a personal decision so that my GP will not have kwashiorkor.
