The problem with many older retired people is that they've come to see actively working as quality of life. They don't know what to do with themselves anymore. My dad for example took up full time church work after retirement which tells on his health but he wouldn't stop because in his words, "what would I be doing at home?"

Active working dwindles quality of life, but the thing is, it's difficult for older people to actually adapt to this change. I understand your Dad, he's probably thinking staying at home will weaken him, but on the contrary taking up something passive rather than active is always the favorable thing to do. Thanks for dropping by, sorry for the late reply.
