Today, Cybersecurity firm NortonLifeLock, announced launch of Norton Crypto, a new feature that will allow Norton 360 users mine Ethereum safely and securely. For now, selected users from early adopters program will be able to use the feature. In coming months the service will be available to all 13 million Norton 360 customers.

Vincent Pilette, CEO of NortonLifeLock said:

As the crypto economy continues to become a more important part of our customers’ lives, we want to empower them to mine cryptocurrency with Norton, a brand they trust. Norton Crypto is yet another innovative example of how we are expanding our Cyber Safety platform to protect our customers’ ever-evolving digital lives.

As per Norton, Norton Crypto will solve the biggest security concern of Norton 360 customers interested in mining. Instead of disabling their security to run unvetted mining code, miners can now feel safe using trusted Norton Crypto to safely mine crypto. Users will also have option to receive their mining earnings into Norton’s cloud-based wallet, providing further safety from funds loss due to hardware failure. Norton Crypto will also add more popular cryptocurrencies.

Norton jumping the crypto bandwagon is logical as crpyto currencies are getting more and more traction by every passing day. But Norton's claims about security of existing open source Ethereum miners like ethminer or cgminer etc. seems inaccurate as they have been constantly vetted by thousands of devs around the globe.

Good way for Symantec to distinguish its products in a crowded market!
I'm sure they can do one better and provide a secure multi-coin wallet.
