Worse shoe experience

Took me a while to think about the worst pair of shoes I've ever owned. I honestly think I've never owned more than 10 shoes of my own. Having an older sister meant I had to get used to wearing her hand-me-downs pretty early coz my feet matured when I was about 10 years old and I've been wearing the same size of shoes since then.

Right after my sister left the country, my brothers got married and I moved on to wear their wives hand-me-downs. I've never had a problem with that. I just felt it was economical. Why waste money on new shoes when they have these perfect shoes they no longer wear?

I think my worse shoe experience had to be one I had about 7 years ago with one of the shoes my sister-in-law gave me. It was an embarrassing experience because it happened in the presence of a very important personality and he laughed at me.

Here's the story

So after my sister-in-law got pregnant, her shoes became undersized for her so she gave them all to me. They were all heels. There was one particular orange pump I really loved but I couldn't find the perfect occasion to wear it and it was a little bit loose fitting on my feet but I was determined.

On that special Sunday, I had just gotten a black dress and I decided that would be the perfect combination. A classy black dress with my orange pumps.

Everything was going pretty well. We got to church, well, I managed to walk steadily until we got into the church and took our seats. I was looking gorgeous that day, as far as I could tell.

There was a point during the service where we had to walk around and drop off our offerings at the front of the church. The Governor of the state was visiting then and we would get the chance to walk past him. It was supposed to be a cool experience but not for me...

After successfully walking around, I got in front of the Governor and then my oversize shoes slipped or something and I found myself slipping to the floor right in front of the Governor. But, I caught myself mid-air and settled on my feet before wobbling past and finding my way back to my seat.

The worst part of all this? I caught the damn Governor laughing at me. I mean we locked eyes and the man actually laughed at me. That had to be the most embarrassing shoe experience.

Right after that, I dumped the orange pumps and I never wore them again.

Thanks to @mukoro for reminding me to take part in this contest, which helped me remember a funny experience.

I think it may have been worse if a News reporting crew was recording the Governor's visit for TV. 😬 👠 I commend you for trying.

Thank you @young-boss-karin for sharing your story.
