Being Poor Is Expensive!
Not all of us got dealt with an easy hand in life. Some are given the 'poverty card' to play with. In a world where it is believed that money talks, you're automatically excluded in a lot of things. This can be viewed in two ways, you can either whinge and complain about it or you can do something about it and face it head on.
Contrary to popular belief, being poor is very expensive. Poor people always find themselves with limited choices, they easily fall prey to scammers and most of the time, they're socially excluded.
Easy Prey To Scammers
Who easily falls prey to 'get rich quick schemes', the rich or the poor? When you find yourself in a bad financial situation, you tend to jump on any offer that's given to you thinking it's the once in a lifetime opportunity.Sadly, this are just schemes and they never deliver on what is promised. Thinking that with a quick investment, they can suddenly turn the table of their financial situation, poor people quickly make the move without any due diligence. There eyes are untrained to see that nothing comes easy especially when it comes to getting rich.
However, online scammers continue to employ this tactic and poor people keep falling for it, till to this day!
Socially Excluded
Networking and connections, opportunities that'll give you a 'big break' in life are rarely available to poor people. These are opportunities that people dream and fantasize about every night, the ones that will forever change their life for the better.
This hand outs are mainly given by well connected people on the top. It's not that they won't give it to poor people but poor people are missing during this gatherings. Have you ever been to those socially awkward gatherings between the rich and the poor?
Poor people don't feel they belong there so they avoid and stay away from those situations as much as possible. Hiding behind the façade of not being worthy to be there. This excludes them from the opportunities they would have had if they weren't poor.
Limited Choices
When a poor person goes to buy something, not having enough will always limit their choices. For example, when buying a vehicle, they'll settle for the one that's barely able to get the job done rather than the one they really like. When buying a house, certain neighborhoods are beyond reach for them simply because it's unaffordable to purchase a house there.
The same thing goes for health and education. Their choices are limited when it comes to the health care and education they receive. In most cases, they just settle for what's available to them even if it's not up to the best standard.
In Conclusion
If you culminate all of this, you come to the conclusion that although getting rich is not easy, it's still a better option that being poor especially in the long term. Being poor can be very costly.Take the example of buying cheap things, they spoil or break early and you have to buy again. Where as, if you bought a good quality one, it will last long. Banks are more friendly and favour rich people than poor people. Poor people rarely have time for investing.
As Dutch American artist, Willem de Kooning said, “The trouble with being poor, is that it takes up all your time.”

Really thought provoking concept.
When you're unable to pay for the little things required just to survive, you end up taking on more risk or debt that compounds even further into the negative.
If you're rich however, you can just use your excess money to compound into the positive.

Sure I really learnt from that very well.
Poor people fall victim of scammers than rich people because they'd often consider a new opportunity to be the next big thing while going extra miles where necessary. The disappointment leaves them much worse than their initial state.
The issue of social exclusion is much worse. They'd often have this inferiority complex which will not allow them express themselves among people with a higher social status, thus missing out on genuine opportunities due to fear of being judged.

Yes, You understand it quite well! There's this feeling of inferiority in social gatherings. I believe it's a mindset that hinges on their growth thinking that they should exclude themselves is not a great way to go about it.
Perspective is very important. But poor people's perspective always seems to be limited.

Oh my, I think I can relate. Poverty in the third world hits different. What poor people from first world countries complain about is like paradise for poor people in third world countries.

Man, I'll have to re watch it with ears wide open. It's relative though. Sweden is one of the richest of the rich so it's kinda unfair to compare it with Nigeria. There are some parts of Nigeria that doesn't look like Africa-ish. More like Europe or America.
It sure is expensive to be poor.

Here is one example.
Where I work, you get paid twice per month. Money goes directly into your bank account.
There is also an option to get paid every night at midnight. Cost? 1% Doesn't seem like much, but add it up throughout the month, and it comes out to a very pretty, amount.
Who needs the daily payouts? Those of us who are living day to day and need to pay that 1% fee so we can avoid late charges on other stuff.
Wow. I'm baffled. Looking at the numbers that 1% wouldn't seem much but if compounded for a month will roughly equate to 1/3 of the salary going into fees.
Speaking of banks why do they charge a monthly fee on accounts that don't or can't maintain a minimum balance? These are the folks who can least afford a monthly fee hello.
Actually I wanted to comment that I was one of those poor folks who felt they didn't fit into the networking environment on 2 different occasions. It was a tough inner battle to get me to go each week to the social media professional networking event in Seattle. That must have been circa 2009 or 2010. The monthly city of music networking was easier to convince myself to go, however I would drink way too much. Mainly due to feeling I din't fit in.
However all the networking I could and failed to accomplish in those real world networking events were easy online??? I spent a large amount of time back then thinking about that. The conclusion I came to is that those groups online I participated in never really discussed how much we earned. While in both of those real world events the topic of money would come up. Seldom but still was there.
Even knowing those feelings are wrong it is hard to get pass them, possible but very difficult. Both of those helped me immensely with various projects I worked on back then. However if I had more confidence and less feeling of being an outsider I could have got 100% or even 1000% more out of them then I did.

Yes it costs more to be poor... especially in countries with some sort of social system that helps those making under a specific amount of income. I have seen too many chose to stay u der that income just so that can keep the free Healthcare and food vouchers coming.
It's a tough thing g, because in the end we all have a choice, ko matter what card we've been delt. With cars for example, the middle class can afford the car they want instead of one that is just enough to get the job done, jut they do it at a premium through debt. It can be detrimental to building building any kind of wealth, and trust me they also fall prey easily to "get rich qiick" schems.
In the end it's all about mind-set, the poor need to stop thinking they're to stay poor, jut u fortunately like you said the education also comes from whatever is available on hand.
It's a difficult topic really.

Yes, at the end of the day it depends on the person's perspective. The first step is educating yourself, in the old days, that was kind of tough. But now with the internet and everything, things have become a little easier. But some folks get tired of the grind and just sit on the bench.
We're still living in the perception that life should not be hard. That's not true for everybody, some just have to give it their all to make it. Not everyone is willing to do that.
It's tough to get off the bench I think. We probably all go through moments of I security and even laziness... the poor are typically surrounded by people who tell them there's no way out of poverty, so unless someone knows to start with changing their own mindset, they can't even get started!

Exactly! the environment is depressing and there's little to no support. Everything has to literally begin with you and you have to keep moving despite all the distractions.
Yes yes, and there's a while lot of "noise" out there to distract you!!! Sometimes it feels like it's intended to do just that...

This is true, being poor is very expensive, because in addition to thinking big in an easy way, we are the great mass that feeds the fortunes of the rich.
