Elon Musk consulted on whether he should step down as CEO of Twitter and the majority voted yes

The Twitter owner vowed to abide by the results of the poll. The poll came amid criticism and controversy on Twitter. Snoop Dogg and Edward Snowden are free for the CEO job.

The billionaire and new Twitter owner proposed this weekend to step down as chief executive officer (CEO) of the social networking company if a majority of his followers supported the move. In a public poll, Musk polled the community on whether he should leave his post, drawing a response in favor of the majority.

"Should I resign as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll," Musk wrote. Just over 17 million people participated in the poll, with 57.5% voting in favor and 42.5% voting against.

It is unclear whether the entrepreneur plans to make good on the promise, after a majority spoke in favor of his departure.

Musk has used Twitter polls in the past to put his next moves to a vote. In fact, his busy USD $44 billion acquisition of the company also began with a poll, as The Verge recalls.
