Wonderful!

My strawberries feel like they took a little longer to get going so I added a couple new plants to the empty spots.

Now they are going crazy maybe because of the cross pollination?

Should I be putting straw in the beds underneath them?

Congrats on your strawberry field upgrade :)

Straw is a good idea because it protects the soil from getting dry, keeps the moisture constant, and, to a degree, fends the plants from snails and other unwanted visitors. Snails don't like sharp edges :)

Fern is the other great snail repellent. They don't like its smell. Yet, with fern, you need to change the cover every few days. You have less work with straw.

Good luck :)

Wow fantastic advice!

I have a pile of bamboo grass to cut and the tops will make some nice sharp bedding. I like planting marigolds around as well as a colourful pest deterrent.
