My Actifit Report Card: October 17 2019

Hi everybody!

The day dawned gray and rainy—AGAIN! Upon arising and getting ready, I headed out to work this morning. Thursdays are a non-doctor day and this allows me to work on my billing, paperwork, etc. It was a productive day.

As I was getting ready to pull out of the parking lot to head for home, Mike texted me stating the power was out. Not a huge deal for us as we have solar power that feeds into a battery bank. The only drawback is our well is not included in the set up as we would need a 220 inverter which we don’t have at the present time. However, being always ready, we have plenty of water stored for cooking and showers, etc. As of this writing, they are saying it will be towards midnight before the power is restored, but they always tend to extend that time frame as it gets closer to when they say it will be back on. Go figure, LOL!

It’s been a bit windy and rainy which is why the power is out. It would be nice if PSE would put our utilities underground. Honestly, the manpower required to work in this area when we have storms like this, would not have to be utilized nearly as much if they would. If you could see the number of splices in our power lines, you wouldn’t believe it! Oh well-no one ever said they were logical!

Obviously, hiking was out again due to weather and lack of daylight. I don’t get off until 5 PM and by the time I get home, I might have 30-45 minutes of daylight/twilight available to hike. It will eventually become ‘country road’ hiking here very soon as it will be dark when I get home. It’s harder on your knees and not nearly as nice. Plus, you still have to worry about the critters out looking for dinner as we are out in the mountains.

Hoping for less rain and less wind for tomorrow. Quitting time is earlier on Fridays and after a couple of errands, that will put me home a little earlier and extend the twilight syndrome for me just a bit.

That’s fall for you up here in the Northwest!

We suffer power outages for 3 to 4 days sometimes 😵and that is why most people have generator set.
National power for us is not reliable. But in the UK I think I only noticed it ones or twice and it didn't take up to 20 minutes for it to be restored.

We seem to be the first to lose it and usually the last to get it back. We have gone as long as you before. Before we had the solar power, I got so tired of throwing out refrigerators of food. Back then, we didn't have the solar or a generator.

@elizabethbit - love the cozy fire! I'm not ready for winter yet! And the getting dark so early. That's a little scary thinking about you walking in the dark in the mountains. And solar power - that's so cool, we keep checking into it, it's on the "want to do" list - but then so are a hundred other things, it's always something.

Don't I know it! Life happens, LOL. We always hike with at least two people, and this year, it looks like we've added our neighbor to the hiking addiction, so we will have three. We carry lanterns and flashlights, and NEVER go out without bear spray and other protection.🤗
