Hard Work Or Luck?

avatar

Today I would like to reflect on this quote that I have found on the Internet... It's not from some philosopher, writer, or Nobel prize winner, but from one ordinary (OK, maybe more than ordinary) actress, Sandra Bullock.

I have achieved everything through either hard work or luck

When she said that, she probably didn't think about the great meaning of her words...

But, she NAILED it...

It's usually like that... There are people in the world that have won lottery jackpots more than twice or others that can win in cards a lot... Those people are LUCKY... and LUCK exists... We can deny that it doesn't exist, but that is just a stupid thing to do...

But, a better question is "How often luck comes to our life?"... Even if we are very lucky, we can win 2-3 times in our whole life... and that's it... But, we can't rely on our lives on that!

What can we do then? Well, I have bad news for lazy people... There is a reason why Miss Bullock said hard work in the first place in that sentence and not luck... It because 99.99% of the achievements that we do are the product of invested HARD WORK.

Are you lucky?

~ph~

In a way I'm not lucky when I think about all the lotto or lottery things I didn't win on. But, in a lot of ways I got lucky when something bad didn't happen to me when I was being "stupid" or not thinking. I also don't feel lucky that my health is so bad but that's my own fault for smoking and doing other things like drinking. I like the song Pat Travers did called Born Under a Bad Sign that says near the end "If it wasn't for really bad luck
Well I wouldn't have no luck at all"

And there you go. You have tested your luck a few times, but it's better not to do that too often. :)

Great article Zoltan, and I'm a fan of Sandra Bullock. She has indeed worked very hard to get to where she is today. Just Google her name and you will find a wealth of stimulating wisdom.

As for luck, I prefer to work hard and seize opportunities as they come along. Sometimes I win, often I don't. To me, that's not luck, that's commitment and dedication. The best teams in the world win consistently not through luck, rather through hard work and demanding training, and constant reviews of performance.

Now you know why Steem has been so "lucky" for the few steemians like y/ourself that post regularly here.

Oh, yes... Hard work will trigger "luck" to appear... :)
Thanks for the comment!

The problem with luck is that people often tend to under-appreciate it, because it came easy. While through work (hard, smart or both), people tend to value what they produce better, because they worked for it, it didn't just come from nowhere. Of course there are exceptions both ways.

That's an interesting look at these 2 things... And you are right about luck... We have been "lucky" a lot of times, but we don't see that very often...

I liker one I heard years ago,

"It's amazing how the harder I work. The luckier I seem to get."

That is a great one... As we work harder, we appreciate more when we get something "for free", being lucky... :)

Really great advice about the need to work hard @ph1102, and many times when we get lucky it's because we worked hard and therefore saw the opportunity and took it, we where present and consistent so we where there when luck came around, keep up your great work, it's awesome.

Nicely said, Mr. Awesome! You are right... If you are creating opportunities, some of them will go through... ;)

There is some debate who the quote is from. But let's not let it ruin the quote itself.

That's a nice one... And completely agree, as we already said in other comments here... Hard work creates opportunities!

Thanks for the quote!
