Zidisha is the non-profit Y Combinator Foundation and the first crowdfunding platform for loans to people in developing countries that connect people directly, without going through local bank intermediaries. Zidisha's entrepreneurs who finance loans are young in sub-Saharan Africa, Haiti and Southeast Asia, who need small amounts for business or university fees. You can chat back and forth with the borrower and share photos while paying off the loan. Zidisha's cost of microcredit decreased from over 35% in crowdfunding platforms for traditional loans like Kiva, to 5%. They did this by replacing local loan officials with a self-governing peer-to-peer lending community.
