Still walking (Aruitemo aruitemo)

Japan, 2008
Director: Hirokazu Kore'eda
Screenplay: Hirokazu Kore'eda
Camera: Jutaka Jamazaki

In the film Still walkin of Asian provenance, I move from action dramas from the previous two articles to an inner film, which makes this film so good, especially thanks to great acting performances and dialogues, and that is why I included it in my database of favorite films, which I give to everyone here to see. It is a film about the family, about family relationships, about how difficult and sometimes easy it is to orient and navigate in them. Everything is really "alive" and the ambivalent relationships between the individual characters get a really believable touch. Relationships in a family marked by a tragedy, the echo of which can be heard more or less every moment, are thus revealed to the viewer in a non-violent but convincing way in their essence. The viewer can accurately sense every hint in seemingly innocent-sounding words, which are based on insurmountable barriers and attitudes. Inability and unwillingness to get closer and get out of pretense. Disappointment, regret, but also love, care or relieving humor must be a necessary part of such encounters - all this and many other feelings are really authentic in this civilian film. An inconspicuous but excellent film with a deep message.

(official text of the Febiofest film festival):
Ryota and his sister Chinami come to their parents' houses every summer to commemorate the tragic death of their eldest brother, who drowned fifteen years ago. The house has a gloomy atmosphere and everything remained in the same place as that day. During one summer day, an inner family drama is revealed. When everyone sits down for a gala dinner, it becomes clear that grief and resentment unite this family as strongly as love.

So, you ARE a cinephile. I thought you would be — seeing some of your past posts. Well, it's great to have you here on hive and also on the cine tribe.

I have not seen any of Kore'eda's works, not because I'm unaware of him (some friends of mine talk so much about him all the time), rather I wanted to explore more of Ozu, Mizoguchi, Kurosawa first. I suppose I'll eventually reach Kore'eda someday.

thanks, but I don't consider myself any cinephile, I just like a good movie. I don't go through any long lists of films from anyone, although I've seen them all from Miloš Forman. Don't expect any philosophical nonsense about how anyone thought or reacted.

That's cool and understandable. I also don't consider myself a cinephile. Hence, the name.

Well, I just had to clarify that 😎, because I'm sure I'll show movies from my database that aren't really work of art, but I just like them (...I liked in the time I saw them ...).

Of course! You should write about whatever film you fancy. There are no obligations or anything like that at all! :)
