A funny thing happened on the way to the Hardfork

avatar

That's the name of a comedic play... Well, I took some license and changed it up a little bit. If you spend any time on Twitter or Steem, you can't have missed the impending doom arrival announcements about a hard fork 21. Or is it hardfork? I'm so confused.

Spelling notwithstanding, you can read the definition here.
Clear as mud, right? People are, for the most part, in 2 camps: doom and gloom or it's all wine and roses (or rainbows and unicorns if you prefer). One of the main points of contention seems to be centered around the new rewards system. Where it used to be 75% creator and 25% curator, it's now 50/50. In keeping with the theme, let's introduce a creator we'll call him... Steemarius 728513.gif

He's a content creator and does fairly well as far as rewards go. He spends time tweaking and forming and tweaking some more to produce content people want to see. The change here is in the splitting of rewards.

This is great if you curate a lot; your rewards should see a bump. This is not so great for people that care about what they create and post. It will be interesting to see what happens if people stop creating. Eventually, you run out of things to upvote. What happens then is anyone's guess.

Perhaps, if some of the whales here start voting more, it may be ok after all. If not, does Steem become a content ghost town?

One saving grace, however, is the communities and their tokens. Hopefully, it will change how things are done and require less SP being needed to keep pushing forward. There may be a way to incentivize their people in other ways.

It's no secret I am partial to a few tribes, in particular, CTP. They also teach about affiliate marketing. Win/win in my book. It's not all about the tokens (although, that doesn't hurt). They are working on other uses, outside of Steem for their tokens. (I am a hodlr and a staker).

Steemians, as a whole, are a pretty smart bunch. Steem is far and away my favorite blockchain for one simple reason: even if you only get 0.0001 from a post, that's more than any social media site will ever pay you. Keep doing what you love and the money will eventually follow.

My advice? Don't panic and don't start packing your bags for seemingly greener pastures just yet. Give the dust time to settle before crying about the sky falling down. This may just be the shot in the arm needed to propel us all into something better.
The funny thing from the title? So far, the world has not ended. We've got that going for us at least.

While I'm thinking about CTP, one of the big pushes has always been to build a list. That way, if the forum you are working in goes away overnight, you still have that list of people to keep in contact with. They have partnered with one of the oldest and most solid list building and autoresponder companies out there: Trafficwave.
This is my link to a free trial.

As always, this is my .02¢ YMMV,
Craig

The sky will not fall and Steem will survive this.. again... that number (21) says that it was 20 other hardforks before... So, this one will pass also, and we will stay here tomorrow also, and build, build, build...

Thanks for the great post!

Keep your head down and #buidl. The price will do what it will do. Empires will rise and fall and we'll still be here.

It's like this every fork, I say that with experience... the % changes are good to reward those who invest in the blockchain, and bad for people who just want to earn and dump the tokens. So I think it's actually fair and will benefit the ecosystem as a whole.

Yeah this was brilliant. One of the better posts I've read about HF21...

Mostly because it wasn't written in tech jargon that only a select few understand lol

Thanks man! I appreciate that. I try to write it for an uneducated steem idiot like me. I always try to help and inform.

Yes, indeed quite a funny way and simple to explain it =) I don't have such abilities, unfortunately. For example, if you take my post about beneficiaries... for example... you clearly see how much I lack imagination there LOL! Technical people... sorry.

Will try to improve a bit more next time... and remember yours as inspiration.\n\nKeep things like this coming. Community need these simple examples.

Hello.

Even though Steem is indeed great, you say it's your favorite blockchain because of the fact it rewards you for content.

However, even if Steem is my favorite as well, I have to point out there are other blockchains that reward you for content, like EOS and Ethereum (with some apps, like Karma).

You should check those out as well to diversify your income.
