Another day in a strange new world

Morning fellow CTP Talkers and Steemians,

Excuse me if this post is way out there (pun intended). Yes that is Mars on my graphic. Do you believe in aliens? As I sat here about to type my blog post this morning the strangest thing crossed my mind. If there was intelligent live on Mars at one time, and lots of people thing there was just search YouTube, I wonder if a virus took them out? lol

Ya, there is much doom and gloom in the world with COVID-19. This is just a reminder that most people are getting it very mildly. Most people are recovering. So what in the world is all the panic about? Why did my Newfoundland shut down the school system, daycare, government employees to work from home? Why did Canada shut its border yesterday?

I am hoping it is because the leader's of the world are worried about the most vulnerable in our world. The seniors, the already sick people. As I stated in a previous blog post my wife has a compromised immune system because of cancer and boy is she worried and sick of the COVID-19 talk. But she talking about it last night. A statement last night that got me thinking, thinking to much: "What are they not telling us". It feels like the response is bigger than it should be.

My thoughts are as I said above. Mankind is just looking out for the people in the world that are getting hardest. Again I don't mean to sound all doom and gloom but my wife got me thinking.

And you all know from previous blog posts now what type of work I do and how I interact with the public all day long. I what to share an email I got last night from my HR department. Going to get rid of some names in it so I hope it does not read to chopped up.

"Hi Everyone,

Thank you all for your patience while we try to adapt to a rapidly-changing situation. NAME and I tried to visit all the dealerships/shops in OUR CITY today, but only got to a couple before having to turn back and regroup after the Premier’s and then the Prime Minister’s announcements this afternoon. The GM’s, NAME, NAME, NAME and I met this afternoon and will be in frequent contact as things develop to make sure we’re on top of the latest guidelines issued by the provincial and federal governments so that we can keep you informed and safe.

So far, we have put the following measures in place:

· Refilled hand soap and hand sanitizer dispensers

· Provided anti-viral disinfectant spray, disposable cloths, and gloves to clean frequently touched surfaces. NAME brought spray around today. If you have not yet received gloves and disposable cloths, please let your manager know and he or she will contact NAME.

· Removed popcorn machines and coffee machines (with the exception of touch-screen coffee machines at DEALERSHIPS, which are easily sanitized) from customer lounges

· Asked all employees returning from travel outside the country to self-isolate for 14 days. Everyone in this situation has expressed concern for their co-workers and complied with the request.

· NAME has created posters to promote proper handwashing as well as some for staff with guidelines around social distancing and hygiene. They are being printed and we will distribute them when they are ready. GMs know where they are to be posted.

· We are currently working on posters that can be displayed for our customers explaining some of the measures we have put in place, including social distancing. When they are ready, we will have print copies to display and we will also be sending the message out through our social media channels.

I got a few questions today from those of you who have relatives returning from travel. Thank you for disclosing these things so that we can work together to find the best solution for everyone involved. If anyone is unclear how to handle a situation like this, please contact me or NAME and we can guide you through it. If we don’t know, we can at the very least find an answer for you.

We understand that with the announcement today by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to close schools and daycares, many of you will have concerns about childcare. I understand, as I’m right there in the same boat with you. For now, we are treating this the same as if your child was unable to go to school or daycare for any other reason (e.g. PD day or power outage) and take sick or vacation time if you have no alternative arrangements for childcare. In the meantime, we need to think broadly and creatively about how we will manage if schools are closed for a long time. Please lean on one another and your family and friends where possible. It’s important for us to keep lines of communication open with your managers. We all want to work with you as this situation is very dynamic with lots of uncertainty.

For those of you who find this particularly difficult or distressing, please reach out to me or NAME. We will be answering emails, texts and calls in the evenings and on weekends throughout this challenging time."

If you like you can give me your thoughts on what my work place is doing. Is it enough? Should I feel safer?

So another long blog post without saying much about my online business. So here is a quick blurb.

Well, they do what they can in these hard moments... I don't want to mess too much in your private things, but maybe you can talk with some of the managers at your workplace about your private situation and your worries... Maybe to take a couple of free days or something similar?

I'm getting stressed every day how irresponsibles are here about some basic stuff in this kind of situation... When they can't provide a simple mask (a piece of cloth over your nose and mouth) in pharmacies...

So... I have to entertain my brain with other stuff, and it's better... as I can't change anything regarding masks, TP, etc..

Stay safe and take care!

I am all for precautions and protecting the most vulnerable among us. And yes, this is serious. While we watch everything be shut down around us we are just focusing on what we can control. And being considerate of those around us when we are out. The other day we were in Aldi and I coughed a little with my mouth covered and the guy in front of us in line turned around and gave me a death stare. Geez, Dude! WTH?! I didn't say anything to him but my husband wasn't pleased. I cover my coughing when we are at home alone too so it's kind of a habit. It would be kind of easy to veg in front of the TV and binge-watch my favorite crime dramas. I have a few of them. :-) But I am happy to have an online business to keep me occupied and productive. I am trying to avoid watching the news as much as possible. Anyway, the key takeaways for me in all this is to just, again, focus on what we can control and be considerate of others.

Stay safe Bradley, and extra important with your wife and her lowered immune system.
