Improve Your Art Skills

Drawing is a skill that should be considered as fundamental as reading, math, and writing. A good drawing offers clear communication of ideas in many contexts. Basic drawing is a skill that can be learned, not a gift only a few are born with (although some people are definitely gifted in that regard.) Here are some of the best resources I have found and used in homeschool or for myself:

Art is Fun website is maintained by Thaneeya McArdle and offers an organized site with tabs for drawing lessons, art supply recommendations, coloring pages and more. She keeps the site running with a little help from readers who purchase supplies through her affiliate links. Check out a few of her lessons or learn which pastels are best for professionals or for children. This a wonderful resource for teachers or for anyone who wants to learn a new skill.

Practical Drafting by Melvin Peterson is a high school level course in beginning engineering graphics/drafting/technical drawing. Rainbow Resource Center carries this workbook along with the Complete a Sketch series for younger children, which consists of sketches. with parts missing. As children complete the sketches, they learn about perspective, proportion and other concepts in realistic drawing.mypencils.jpg
