Once Upon A Time....

Industry myths.

Oh, there are so many....

Let's start with the biggest one that I KNOW we're ALL familiar with.

"Sign up at this program and you will get rich overnight! We GUARANTEE it!"

So many things are wrong with that sentence but the worst part is the guarantee.

Why do I say that? I say it because nothing is guaranteed in business (or in life for that matter). In fact, a LOT of what we do is deciding risk vs reward, over and over. There is NO guarantee where there is risk and there is ALWAYS risk!

....and do we really need to talk about getting rich overnight? Really? In 2020? Have we not figured out by now that in order to make money, you have to actually WORK for it? The bonus is when you can find something you LOVE to do so it doesn't necessarily feel like work all the time but you're still going to have to work for your money and you won't love it all the time.

I can't help but grimace when I see these advertisements. I've fallen for them so many damn times in the past but yet it STILL shocks me that they are still around.

It would almost be funny except for the fact that it's really not that funny when someone gets duped. It's not funny at all. It's actually heart breaking and can be devastating to the person who has been scammed. It's a real shame because I think it turns a lot of people off from trying again at business online.

Please when you see these ads, if you're considering joining, I beg of you....don't. To quote my favorite TV judge, "if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a duck." In other words, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is!

There is no easy button. Believe me, if there was, someone would have found it LONG ago and we'd have heard about it by now and everyone would be rich. The reason we haven't heard of it yet is because it just simply doesn't exist.

You have to hustle. You have to work.

It takes time, money and effort to become successful - NO MATTER WHAT!

Yep. We both feel strongly about this. And I just happen to know we have both paid the price for believing the 'hucksters'. More than once.

One of the things I most admire about you. Your unflinching need and desire to do things honestly.

Thanks Janelle.

Unfortunately, people fall on even worse scams, so this one isn't so surprising... And there are always new sheep... time isn't really a big issue...

But, you are on spot... there is no free money for doing nothing... The closest to that is getting HIVE and CTP rewards, but for DOING something...

Indeed! getting an overnight success is for the lazy people :) the scammers know how to play with them, but we all got scammed one way or the other especially by the passive income sites.

Sometimes I think people trying for overnight is less about being lazy and more about people being desperate enough to believe it will work. It never works taking the easy way out.

The best thing about these scam that people do not discuss about them as such. Not before putting their money (they are really in hurry to put their money instead of taking some opinion with others) and after they got scammed they took it at as fate.

This is true. Sometimes a little research goes a long way!

I can't tell you how many times I have had this conversation (with someone else or with myself) after falling for another scam. I guess the silver lining (if there is a silver lining) is if we are serious about making money online, we learn from our mistakes and move on (Fool me once, shame on you! Fool me twice, shame on me!). I have heard this referred to as "stupid tax". When it does happen, we can either become skeptical (careful about shelling out any more of our hard earned funds) or cynical (believing it is not possible to make money online). It is up to each person to decide. Unfortunately, just about everyone has to get burned at least once before they will accept the fact that these scams, no matter how amazing they sound, are just a pipe dream...pay your stupid tax and get back to applying elbow grease to the wheels of prosperity.

Here it is, I found it.

lol Just kidding, you are right there is no easy button and there is no such thing as a get rich quick business. It takes time and effort to build a business and there is no real short cuts. Good information.

At my previous job, we had one of those buttons behind the front desk. It said "Well, that was easy" every time you pushed it. I am fairly certain I hit it every single time I walked past it LOL
