Leaving My Computer and My Comfort Zone Today to Learn Leadership Lessons from Lincoln

avatar

First of all, Hello and Happy Valentines Day and Happy Friday!

A couple of days ago I saw an event posted on Facebook from a local networking group. It was called The Lincoln Experience Leadership Lessons from Lincoln. For those of you who are unfamiliar with American History, Abraham Lincoln was our 16th President. He was President during the Civil War. I was a history major in college. A long story for another day. I also know that leadership is not one of my strengths. I actually got fired from my corporate job after grad school because I did not want to be a supervisor. Another story for a different day. :-)

I am glad we went! Even though it was really targeted at managers and people in larger organizations I still got something out of it. I work here at home on my own but I still at some point have to interact with other people. I mean God willing I am actually going to have customers someday and what if they have complaints. I can't very well ignore them. The point for me today was getting off my butt, out from behind the computer, and out of my comfort zone. The most challenging part of it all was finding parking when we got there and then we went to the wrong building. We didn't have to walk outside to get to where the event was being held. It is really cold here today so we were grateful for that. It was a very small crowd. I did talk to someone else besides my husband who was there with me. So, there's that. :-) I have to say that when one of the presenters mentioned how much of his day is spent dealing with conflict resolution I am soooo glad I work at home for myself. I can honestly say I don't miss the drama and office politics. If nothing else today was more reinforcement for why I do what I do.

Enjoy the rest of your Valentine's Day! See you tomorrow!

Hi Cheryl,
I totally get it! I don't have any pets so I need to find other reasons to get out. Sometimes I go out for breakfast or lunch with friends of mine. I really do have to make an effort though. It is too easy to just stayin especially when it is cold outside.
