ListNerds - Improving Your Reputation

avatar

ListNerds.jpg

With the new changes to ListNerds to the up and downvotes, now is a good time to focus on your reputation and look to gather those upvotes on your emails.

The main changes to the voting mechanism mean that the larger your staked ListNerds, the larger your voting power. You will also earn from downvoting emails.

Therefore, it is very important to focus on your reputation to ensure that you keep a good standing in the community. This will mean that you will continue to get your emails verified and avoid some powerful downvotes that will reduce your ListNerds earnings.

When someone is looking at your emails if they see that you are green or blue. They will more likely to click your email and verify it. Here are some tips I have gathered from chatting with others in the community that may be helpful to get more upvotes and avoid those nasty downvotes.

Untitled design.jpg

Try to do:

Hive Posts

Many ListNerds users come from the Hive community and like to see Hive posts. Therefore, some content on Hive could help to achieve upvotes.

Of course, if it's just a link to your Actifit report card with no text, that may not be interesting enough to get an upvote. Try to be social with your audience, add some photos and write some text.

Catchy Title

It is worth putting a nice catchy title on the subject to get the person's attention. Try to make it interesting and exciting to encourage them to read your email. It is also important to make sure you change your titles and not use the same one over and over.

Add Some Colour

Reading lots of plain text will be harder to catch the readers' attention than adding some formatting including some nice colours to tell them where to click or highlight important or interesting information. You can also play with the size of the text to make things stand out.

Try to avoid:

Direct Selling

There are many types of readers on ListNerds and if you put a random sign up link in, this probably won't go down well with the person unless they are interested in that type of thing.

A better tactic would be to link for example to a Hive article about the product you are promoting with a link there for interested people to click on could save you from an unnecessary downvote. You would also get a better chance of a conversion by connecting interested people to a good hive article.

Spelling Mistakes and Broken Links

Mistakes happen, but you could be at risk of a downvote if you have spelling mistakes or have forgotten to insert the link correctly. This tells the reader that you haven't taken the time to create a correct marketing email and do not respect their time.

A good habit is to always preview your email before you send it and check the link works. Your Sent Emails are valuable and we should ensure to make sure that there are no errors before sending them.

Long-Winded Emails

Some emails require lots of scrolling to reach and find the link to click. This may frustrate the reader and will be hard to keep their attention. Make it easy to find the link they need to click.

Summary

A good reputation will be vital to your ListNerds earning potential going forward. Be sure to do your best to protect it. I hope this is helpful.

If you have any tips I haven't included, let me know in the comments.

The ListNerds team will release a post about the exact calculation method soon, but you can get a preview of how it is calculated from Chris. He shows how it is calculated in the below video, you can skip ahead to 9.30 for the calculation:

Thanks, this was helpful! Btw, last time I send a mail I was really struggling with adding a picture..just couldn't find a way to do it. Felt kinda stupid but I'm quite comfortable with text editors but with this one just couldn't find a way..

Thanks for dropping by. Don't feel stupid, I think you need to use HTML to add pictures. I also didn't figure this out easily yet! lol

You are right ... I started last week, accidentally did all of this and added reading through the inbox and commenting positively on other people's posts I saw, and went from 25 in reputation to 100! What you say DOES WORK!

Thanks for dropping by and I'm glad you have done so well with your reputation, that's awesome to get 100! 😃

Of course, if it's just a link to your Actifit report card with no text, that may not be interesting enough to get an upvote.

I've seen lots of short-form posts coming from ListNerds. As you've mentioned, this isn't the greatest tactic, not only from a ListNerds perspective, but the Hive community too.

In general, a post under 350 words isn't bound to get attention. Unless it's art or photography, then less words can work.

I'm going to be doing a first weeks impressions on ListNerds soon, where I'll mention this.

Great insights and thanks for the update on the voting system 😊

I agree, I think it's cool for people to be active and post their Actifit cards, but I just mention this because the votes from the top 50 will have much more influence and if they see dozens of Actifit posts with no content, it may at best get no vote, at worst a downvote (with up to 10 power). I agree 100% with the exceptions of art or photography. It's great to see creativity on hive.

I look forward to seeing your first weeks impressions post. We can get better as a community by sharing what works and what doesn't.

There's nothing wrong with actifit posts IF they add some content to it. I'm never a fan of it though, I rarely see an actifit post worth reading. They look horrible overall and to me they are lazy content, even though they promote being active.

There's also a difference if people are ONLY promoting actifit posts or have longer good / valuable content to go with it as a second email. If all is short term, at some point I won't even read it anymore. Which is a loss IMO because I'm 100% sure I'm not the only one.

Yes, I agree with you. Some very good points and I hope we can all up our game with producing some good readable content.

I totally agree, and honestly, I will never upvote it. This is just hive etiquette and there is plenty of good content to upvote.

These short-form content may work for a little while but won't get you anywhere long-term as people will at some point ignore all your content :)

Solid pieces of advice for sure!

Love the fact that it's focusing on the community and the rep you have within it. We hope people enjoy the changes, and it helps spread the tokens out more :)

I think it is a good move so far and is an extra bonus for having those ListNerds staked.

Yeah just a little bonus use case for them too. Keeps people wanting more we hope lol

Those are some good advice for people. I would also add to the tips to change up what you send out. If you are sending out the exact same mail every single day, people will get tired of it.

That's some great advice. We need to spice it up a bit.

I'm gonna try and follow some of these and also sending out mail to more than 1000 is something I picked up :) as that helps

You will also earn from downvoting emails.

How is this done?

This will mean that you will continue to get your emails verified and avoid some powerful downvotes that will reduce your ListNerds earnings.

Does the change in voting really assure this?

Thanks for your questions.

How is this done?

It is explained in the video from Chris that I posted in a comment above (from 13.00). There isn't a direct earning from upvoting or downvoting emails, but with fewer low-quality emails being validated, it should increase the CTP earnings pool for those participating in the validating of emails and making validated emails.

Does the change in voting really assure this?

Yes! But it could also work out better in the other directions if you make a good email. The impact of the top 50 ListNerds holders will now be quite dramatic on whether you will get an email validated or not. Therefore 1 downvote worth between 5 and 10, for example, could stop your emails from being validated, whereas before it was worth just 1 and you didn't need to worry so much about getting a downvote.

I hope that helps! :)

True I think selling isn't best option for beginner. I mostly post my Hive Articles

A good article, and i think a very big reason for downvotes is broken links, i have forgot to chech the links myself.

These are some great points. I found your post on Listnerds by the way. I haven't read the post that has the changes to the voting system yet. That is next on my list. Thanks for the great advice though. I plan on applying some of what you suggested here.

I just went through the post. Yeah. It should be interesting to see where this leads.

Yeah, need to keep stacking those ListNerd tokens. :)

I've been stacking whole numbers. So if I get like 125 after a couple of days I will pull out the 25 and leave the 100 staked.

That's a good strategy. I'm still far behind so am using the 10% rule. For each 100 I would withdraw 10 at the moment.

Nice job on the main dos and don'ts for sending emails in LISTNERDS. A huge one for me to downvote is links that point just to an ad. If it is a personally branded splash or squeeze page that is different. What I would want to see instead is an email linking to a post about a program telling the reader(s) why they are using the program. Benefits are good but you need to state the cons of joining the program. What you don't like. A good reputation is difficult to build and can be destroyed with very little effort at all.
