How nothing can become something

Some days you just feel like writing about nothing, well that would leave a big ole blank page, lol, although they reckon that Seinfeld did a show about nothing, and here comes the divider, oh that’s right it was a big ole blank hole 😊

I came across a great book yesterday, it was entitle, 462 things to draw, wow I thought what a great book, I can buy it for our up and coming prolific artists age 5 and 4. This will show them how to draw some things, not that they don’t know already, but , might be some extra stuff, showing good technique etc etc.

I opened the book and it was full of blank pages, some whole pages some divided into two and three boxes, each page/box had a heading. Even better, the blank canvas with just an idea.

Some were things like, Umbrella, Wedding, Car, Train etc etc. So the Penny dropped. This book had 462 things to draw and instead of having hints tips and tricks that would show you how, it had the concepts only and left it up to your interpretation on how to draw the object in the heading of each page/box.

Now what an even better Idea I though. I love a blank canvas.

So not unlike a great business idea, you start with the concept and then you have to use your imagination to give it context.

I have mentioned in previous posts that a Blank canvas can be a scary thing until a mark is made and then it starts to take form and development of that form gives it context. Also not unlike the Mind map I spoke of, One mark, (The Idea) allows for your creativity to start giving it shape and form, One piece leads to another and another and one direction takes on tangents that eventually connect and join with other tangents and eventually you reach a point where the intangible becomes tangible. And a Business is born.

I am really excited to give this 462 things to draw book to the budding young artists and watch as they work their way through this intangible concept and give each and every page a context. Because as we know an umbrella is just an umbrella until you give it some rain and then it becomes much much more.

This tool that I will give to the 4 and 5 year old will be a great development tool for their future, It will allow them to not only be observant of the world around them but it will also allow them to apply to the environment and create story and create conclusion.

This could be a great practice for the upcoming business entrepreneur, Give yourself numerous blank canvases and start building from a single mark/idea, see where it takes you, this sort of challenge should be relished and approached with great enthusiasm and creativity, after all entrepreneurs are indeed very creative people.

Here is some homework. Set yourself up with 3 blank mind maps. Put in the centre an idea, make your ideas distances apart from each other in concept. Start building your idea into something a bit more tangible, add content, add context and see if you can create something that becomes your niche. Remember be creative, approach it with passion and your idea will manifest itself.

Jon and Blain from ClickTrackProfit had a method of writing down 3 things https://clicktrackprofit.com/v2/uploads/onething.pdf that would help you develop your niche (This is a great PDF resource by the way)
The above method is a very similar approach, just a little more visual. And because it is visual, A creative mind will find alternate ways to express this growing idea other than a digital mind map.

I would like to see some great products of this creative process

Great story, Russell... I have a feeling that children today learn in school step by step... without leaving that "closed circle"... Killing their creativity will harm a lot to the world tomorrow...

Thanks for the video... I'm scared of watching it... Having a child in the school at the moment, and I just can imagine what Sir Robinson will say... :)

The blank canvas is always scary when you are used to having a contour, but once you take that step and embrace it the contour will just be limiting, thanks for sharing this great advice and the story @russellstockley, and keep up your great work and stay awesome.
