dCity Investments - Let’s analyze the current dcity president

Now that the taxes in dcity are almost 50% again, I thought it would be good to analyze the dcity of the president and try to find his strategy for growth. What does he gain from these taxes?

The current president of dcity is @XXXXXXXXXX, let’s call him 10X. He is that for at least 3 more days, but he might get re-elected. We will see if that happens.

Some stats about his dcity:

  • population: 68581 (his casino got robbed though for 400 SIM)
  • Income: 25829
  • Popularity: 30243
  • Unemployment: 11479 (this costs him 96 SIM)
  • Education is maxed out at 25%
  • Creativity is maxed out at 25%
  • Training is maxed out at 100%
  • Crime rate 80% (yes the president gets robbed almost daily)

An interesting fact is that he has no Appartments at all. Only Basic homes and Luxury homes. Quite understandable as Appartments are often a bit overpriced.

His First edition top Production cards are:

  • 225 Factories
  • 221 Shopping malls
  • 206 Restaurants
  • 184 Police stations (along with the 141 Gyms this doesn’t really reduce his crime rate)
  • 180 Weed dispensaries

His Second edition top cards are:

  • 352 Park’s (15% chance to get them as a random card and on the market they are a cheap popularity booster)
  • 240 Wind Turbine’s (another card that you simply get a lot)
  • 209 Art Galleries (quite odd to have so many, but I’m sure he gets lots of backgrounds)
  • 187 Solar plants (with the right technologies the best earning card in the game)
  • 186 Hotels (nice income, nice amount of workers needed and some popularity. Just a good allround card)
  • 183 Stadium (nice income and a nice amount of workers needed.

So, like most big dcities mister 10X has a good bunch of production cards that need a lot of workers. This is really beneficial to a big dcity. As the popularity bonus is astronomical, there are constantly too many unemployed workers that need to get a job.

Also he doesn’t care at all that his casino’s, shopping mall’s and bank’s get robbed very often. Or at least he rather looses some income over it, in order that other people also don’t get a lot of SIM.

Relatively he doesn’t have that many Military Industrial Complexes, so that is probably the reason why he isn’t too keen on using the war tax. Still he would probably loose about 5000 SIM and gain 2800, so it would not be that bad for him in comparison with other players.

His 145 Casino’s do ofcourse produce a lot of Gamer tokens. The same goes for his 93 Weed Farms. His 36 Breweries have the benefit of the Brewery technology and count for 72 Breweries. He does have 3 more of these Brewery technology cards, so probably he thinks that by keeping them, he will have more of an avantage, then by selling them.

So, this give me the feeling that he is actively hoarding useful cards from the game, in order that other players cannot get them. This is quite a common tactic in most boardgames. Don’t focus only on your own income, but focus more on limiting resources for your competition. Especially when there are a lot of players in the game, you should try to limit access to the limited resources.

This also explains why mister 10X has 7 Hospital’s, whereas you really only need 1. It gives a 1% bonus to population, but you can only use one per dcity.

For his 23 Law Firm’s it works the same. Only one can be used to lower taxes, the others are worth nothing more than a Restaurant.

Perhaps he even does this with Research Centers, Art Galleries and Job Centers. I don’t know how many of each you need to max out Education, Creativity and Training.

And then he has several other Technologies that he does not seem to want to sell. Police equipment, Robocop, Free internet, GMO farming, Eco energy and Cold fusion.

So yes, my conclusion is that mister 10X is choosing to take control over limited resources in order to strengthen his own position long term, by slowing down the progress for anyone else.

Who will you be voting for to be the next dcity president?

Thank you for reading and see you next time!

This is cool thanks for going into the details. I bought a workers card the other day to increase my population so I don’t have to sell my hotel or police station. Hoping that I don’t get robbed before I can afford to buy more people. I’ll be investing more money into it slowly but for now, I’m just trying to collect hive engine rewards to exchange for SIM.

The only cards that get robbed are shopping malls, bank’s and casino’s. So you won’t get robbed.

Also workers are nice, but generally a basic home is relatively a cheaper investment if you want population.

Cool, thanks for the advice! I'm still learning about the game when I can so I'll probably buy a basic home instead next time!

The game is a lot of fun, I think. Managing something like a city and getting a good return on investment will be cool.

It has given me an idea of something I would eventually like to work on creating! One step at a time though hehe

You’re welcome. Just take it slow at the start to get some idea of how it works and do read some of my older posts about dcity. That skills help you to understand the core mechanics of the game.

I don’t play any games other than dcity, since I’ve been quite addicted to gaming before. Dcity is different in that you really don’t need much time to balance your population and income and then you just wait for the next day.

Gerber started this game because he wanted to do something with nft’s. It was very basic at first, but with the second generation it has grown in complexity. I look forward to the third and fourth generation, which will undoubtedly add more complexity. I like complexity.

Do let me know if you have an idea for a game in concept phase. I love talking abstract ideas and how to market them with your target market.

Yeah for sure! I hear you on the gaming. I was quite addicted in my earlier years, even until recently.

Appreciate the tips and feedback!

Do you use discord? I’d love to see what you think of my idea. Hopefully it’s not taken already lol

Ha! This game looks quite funny... I should put aside some time and some Hive to explore it properly.

You should, it is not a cheap game to start, but it doesn’t cost much time and the profits are really good.

Thank you for looking at 10x and your assessment! As it looks at the moment with the participation, he will remain President for a long time.

I’m glad you liked it. I was curious myself and everything is visible for all to see, so I thought let’s try to find out what he is going for.

We’ll see if someone else has been stacking sim tokens, since that determines the voting power.
