DCity: Joining the top 500 cities!

avatar

So, last week I shared that I joined @dcitygame and created my own DCity.

This week I joined the Top 500 cities!

It is not really a big deal, as there are a little under 1000 cities listed in the rankings currently and there are probably a lot a cities ahead of me in the rankings that are really active.

But it is good to see my growth and now I need to start thinking a little bit about strategy.

Main Strategy

Looking at the biggest cities on Dcity, I see there are two main strategies that you can easily distinguish:

1. Investing in size:
There are several very big cities that have completely invested in the size of their city. Those cities basically only earn from the Dcity Hive pool for their population size and have 0 SIM income.

2. Investing in income:
The other option is to earn from income of things you built in your city. Meaning the income based of your in game cards, minus the applicable tax.

Verdict:
For now I've committed to investing in income. I have quite a high income to population ratio and know it won't be sustainable if I want to grow quick, just because the SIM income strategy is rather expensive. It will help once my population multiplier is high enough that I no long have invest in housing and my new citizen probability reaches 30%. Also, based on my current SIM income, I'll have my initial 125 HIVE investment back in just under a year.

Investing in war

I've currently spend around 125 Hive to built my DCity. 75 Hive in the first week and decided to add 50 Hive more this week.

The question: Should I get myself a Military Industrial Complex or not?
The biggest pro would be a share in the war tax. I haven't calculated what the return per MIC is, but I know it is significant. The biggest con, it would limit my budget to basically just that purchase (and getting the 30 workers needed) and it would significantly halt my city's popularity growth which is still at a young stage.

For now, I've decided against it. Instead of buying a MIC on the market, I bought a Solar Plant, an Ad Agency, a Farm and apparently 2 Hospitals. I don't know how I ended up with 2 Hospitals when I pretty much only needed one. This puts me in a awkward position to consider to put it back on the market. Only problem, I don't know for how much HIVE.SWAP I bought it. The lesson is to always note down your transactions, something I obviously didn't do. If someone know where I can find a log of the market transactions, please do let me know. The DCity log only shows minted cards and Hiveblocks shows the transaction, but not the amount.

Verdict:
Aside from the minor slip up, I'm pretty satisfied with the choice to develop the diversity of my city instead of getting paid off of war.

Other strategies

Crime strategy:
I currently have chosen a rather weird strategy to not built or buy any banks, shopping malls and casino to see whether or not a robbery will affect my income if I don't have any of those. I don't know if you will get notified when you get robbed, but I'm monitoring my income daily to see if it is somehow different. I'm hoping someone with more knowledge on this is willing to share their experience if this strategy works.

Income maximization:
For now I've decided to focus on cards that how a positive income to population ratio. So I have multiple Ad Agency and Forest cards. Also a lot of Luxury Homes instead of Basic Houses and Apartments. I realize it is a rather expensive strategy, but to earn a little more so I can reinvest my SIM income, I thought this would be the way to go.

Automation:
I've unlocked two automations so far and realize I still have to get the cards. As I don't actually have a factory, I'm not even sure if I can actually get my basic automation card. Still have to invest a little more time into researching the automations.

That's it for this weeks update. Hope you enjoyed the read. If you have any tips feel free to share in the comments.
