Charles couldn't help the pang of jealousy that coursed through him as he watched Brittany flash their latest client a dazzling smile.

It would have been just the usual business day at the "Make My Day!" Events Office, had it not been for the man who stepped through those doors that day.

The groom-to-be, as he later found out, was Brittany's ex.

That first meeting happened months ago, and today marks the last meet they'd be having before the big day.

He only hoped that he was misreading the wistful look Brittany had on her face, as she watched the couple walk away, hand in hand.

Prompt 2
Charles shut his eyes so tight, his lips curled off his teeth as if he were in pain.

Turning away with his hands clenched, he stormed out of the reception hall and into the gardens.

He just couldn't take how Brittany kept fawning over that man! He was her present after all, or what he'd hope to be her present anyway...

He gazed down sadly at velvet box he had in his hand, as he continued to sit there at the gazebo situated in the middle of a pond just beyond a small bridge.

Prompt 3
she heard music

Before she actually saw where it was coming from; there at the gazebo, she could faintly make out Charles's figure.

Halfway across the small bridge, she couldn't help but stop and admire Charles from afar. Strumming his guitar and softly singing a sad tune, he looked like a man who lost his one great love.

Once the song lingered to a close, Brittany couldn't help but ask, "Why such a sad song for such a happy day?"

She saw him tense before turning to face her. Not waiting for a response, Brittany sat quietly beside Charles.

A few moments of silence passed with both of them lost in their own thoughts before Charles broke the silence, "I thought you were enjoying yourself in there... with him..." It turned out more of a statement than a question.

Wistfully, Brittany replied, "We were friends once, before we became anything more then..." She trailed off just as she took Charles's hand and looked him straight in the eyes, "...But you're here now, and I choose to spend my present with you."

Charles couldn't look away, he gripped her hands just as he got down on one knee.
There was no better time than the present.
