Fails of the Urban Explorer: A Quartet of Failures VIII

Having done a few recent explores, I have once again some more 'Fails' to hopefully re-visit in the future and convert them into 'Tales'.

4_IMG_6788_4.jpg

Technically we are supposed to be in lockdown and not doing this. We are allowed exercise and this is the best exercise I am ever going to get, not forgetting the mental advantages of 'getting out'.

I know there are plenty of other current active explorers out there, and I have yet to hear of one getting busted. During the first national lockdown, anyone posting new material on certain Urban Exploration sites were getting blasted by other community members.

Nobody seems to give a toss anymore, particularly with the easing of lockdown starting tomorrow. Not that I bother with these stuck up 'premier' exploration sites anymore.

Victoria Theatre

I am a little sore about Victoria Theatre and am quite convinced I am cursed as to never enter ANY cinema or theatre having failed several others last year.

5_IMG_6789_5.jpg

...just look at that..., Manchester Gangland at its' finest!'...

This 18th-century relic has been open for most of the winter months and I didn't take advantage of the situation. I have seen images of the inside, with all the Victorian seating intact, albeit crumbling.

1_IMG_6785_1.jpg

This is not the first time I have tried this bloody theatre. It looked a lot different around here last year.

2_IMG_6786_2.jpg

The scrapyard dudes around the back see themselves as unpaid fucking security officers and give explorers a hard time when they try and get in. Due to COVID, they can't work so are not currently there.

3_IMG_6787_3.jpg

I came just a few days too late as the sealers arrived before me. Someone has already had a go at ripping it open again. I will let them do the full job before returning.

RedLine.png

The Punch Bowl

This one is completely off the radar and found by yours truly. It has been closed for some time now and I made my way for a solo visit a few weeks ago.

7_IMG_6677_7.jpg

6_IMG_6675_6.jpg

Yet another old pub in the middle of nowhere that probably sold bad food and was forced to close. By the looks of the above, it's been closed for more than a while.

1_IMG_6669_1.jpg

2_IMG_6670_2.jpg

Someone has tried to get inside but did not make a proper go of it. If this was in a city area, it would have been opened a long time ago.

3_IMG_6671_3.jpg

4_IMG_6672_4.jpg

5_IMG_6673_5.jpg

I may not try this one again as it’s kind of off the beaten track, that is unless I am in the area.

RedLine.png

Thornham Mill

There are so many mills in the Manchester area that you don’t even want to think about it. Having been in a LOT of them, I should be 'milled out' by now.

1_IMG_6870_1.jpg

We were quite sure this one was empty due to general bad condition. This sign was not very accommodating for us, but we were never going over there anyway.

2_IMG_6871_2.jpg

You don't want to tangle with this nasty grease paint stuff that won't come off your clothes once on. You may as well burn them.

3_IMG_6872_3.jpg

4_IMG_6873_4.jpg

The yard around the back is being used by an active business, and so we had to throw in the towel once again. Bummer!

RedLine.png

Pendleton Bowling Club

I am guessing this bowling club that is marked as 'Permanently Closed' has not been in that state for too long.

5_IMG_6784_5.jpg

Tight seals and new locks meant I wasn't getting in here. Jumping over the fence into the back area was also out of the question as @bingbabe was waiting for me in the car, and it was too high for my old bones.

3_IMG_6782_3.jpg

1_IMG_6780_1.jpg

You can still see the bowls on the green that has grass that is now getting longer, and by the summer coming will likely be a forest.

RedLine.png

The Burnt Caravan

I know this is number FIVE but as it’s not a building I will add it as an extra.

1_IMG_6874_1.jpg

2_IMG_6876_2.jpg

3_IMG_6877_3.jpg

4_IMG_6878_4.jpg

We passed by this roadside monstrosity and just had to have a look. It must have been an inferno in there.

5_IMG_6879_5.jpg

6_IMG_6880_6.jpg

We could walk inside but there was barely anything left that was recognizable. If I could feel sorrow for a caravan, it would be for this poor metal junkheap.

I was so pissed at being denied that theatre. Even the good lady was willing to come in with me. Some thugs drew up in a souped up car while I was checking it out. It was time to leave before they challenged me with crowbars. !WINE.

Theatres would be a treasure trove of things to see. I can understand that miffedness.

Bloody thugs and their souped up cards usually with some shit music pumping!

So it safe to say you have more misses than hits or do you think it is about 50/50? Very interesting either way. It's too bad these didn't pan out for you like you had hoped.

On a regular day @bozz, there are more hits than misses. The day we hit the theatre was quite poor. I had two in the bag, and have a total of four for this year waiting. I'm doing a day session next week, so will get some more.

Another set of great photos! I particularly like those of The Punch Bowl! Something about the colours and the light in those photos just evokes an apocalyptic feel.

It looks like so much fun to go out and explore these areas. I would love to go do this, but here in the US, people are stupid and I bet I would get arrested.

Knowing your passion for photography, you would love it. Shame you are in a country where it's too dangerous and probably deemed as criminal.

I actually like the green tint of the Punch Bowl walls, very artistic lol. Exercise aka urban exploration. Lockdown can't stop people to explore, it is impossible to just sit indoors for days.

They will be nice when you get in them, mind the needles! Totally agree with your sentiments 28 is full of vainglorious virtue signallers and smug wankers. FB is full of goons location beggars and wankers with explorer envy. Long live the hive

It's nice to see someone likes HIVE, there are a lot of peeps who don't, and won't even give it a try. I thought that Theatre might be on your radar, I will try it again soon.
