Tales of the Urban Explorer: Nettles Farm
This is another nameless farm and so I christened it appropriately. Some nameless places do have names created by other explorer’s but I could not find one for this.
It is a well-explored venue although you need to be in with the correct crowd to find out just where it is (thanks again @grindle).
Looking at the maps, it seemed we were in for a longish walk to get to 'The Nettles Farm'. On arriving, I said to @dizzydiscovery, 'fuck this.. we are driving up.. it's too far to walk'.
Single lane tracks are common in the UK, and so we ended up driving almost into the farmyard area before turning around and finding a suitable spot, not too close and not miles away.
If Farmer Giles gets pissed that we are blocking his exit, then so be it. We don't fart around and would be gone in 30 minutes or so.
This was the car turning point which appeared to be a bonus explore! The wrecked vehicle told me everything. Was this house connected to the main event? I just don't know.
Some walkers were mooching by so we had to stand around, doing handstands, twiddling our thumbs, and whistling not too subtlety until they were gone.
As much as we tried the house was firmly sealed and getting around the back was out of the question unless one wanted to die horribly from nettle stings.
Sighing in resignation, we walked to the main forlorn-looking farmhouse.
Just like the appetizer, getting anywhere near this wreck was extremely challenging. The nettles were everywhere and just looking to attack. Did I ever tell you, 'I hate nettles'....
The broken windows were not quite broken enough to scramble through and the interior a wreck. I could only figure this out by risking an approach from the rear and gingerly looking inside.
Some parts of the building were being held up by barks and trees, or was it the other way around?
This was not a great start but we spotted plenty of other things to nosey at in the surrounding buildings.
We had to climb through a window to get to the cars. Not terribly exciting.
I do hate it when photographs are not properly focused. These are not sharp enough in my opinion.
Plenty of farm machinery left in the outhouses, all with plenty of rust.
One large barn appeared to contain all the contents of the house. There were items of value for sure in here, along with piles of clothes and other bric-a-brac.
Moving along to what I could only call some kind of shed revealed an old upright piano.
It had seen better days, and those keys were never going to be played again. Being exposed to the elements was never going to help.
Why there was a conveyor belt and machinery in there I could not say.
Lastly, was this makeshift building.
We had to tread carefully in here lest it all fall on our heads.
This one was strange. Some parts looked almost habitable and others had half the walls missing. I say walls, as they seemed to be made out of plasterboard and nothing else.
The kitchen still had some a few items of rotting food and even cups for tea and other refreshments. Other parts had little in the way of walls.
Clothes folded away and ready to wear.
Some handy magazines on Sadism; You need something to read while the wind and rain is blowing around you.
I guess a few more English winters and this ‘whatever it is’ will be collapsing.
This was one of many explores from early July 2020. I am getting through them and now we can't go out (due to lockdown again) there are no new ones to visit for a while.

Another excellent post and explore.
It seems a long time ago, I'm getting through the backlog.
That is pretty cool. Looks like it was a good explore. You should take a close up shot of those nettles some time so I can see what you are talking about. The only Nettles I know is Jennifer and she has an awesome voice :) Nice job on this one. Lots of cool stuff!
You mean to tell me they don't exist in North America? The dratted things are everywhere here and a bane to explorers. I can't take a snap now as they are dying (they don't like the cold and winter).
I am sure we do, they are probably just called something different. It's no biggie, I will just Google it :)
It draws my attention to see the piano, an instrument that generates great sounds and is so miserably lost, but exposed in that way it is impossible to preserve it.
The piano is too far gone, and open to the elements. It is just about under cover but once our winter starts it will deteriorate more.

Loved that place, the first house was solid! The farm now looks completely collapsed, shame it was great inside.
If you look on the web similar genuine 1950’s toy train to the red can sell up to £2.5k That one is just rotting away. That’s criminal.
The farm machinery is pretty cool too
Nicely captured
Did you get inside either houses? The was some wierdo hanging around in the fields next to the first one.., another reason we didn't try and fight the nettles.
A lot of stuff in the large barn too. I have seen a few reports of this one, but not the tour coach yet.
The first one was secure, couldn’t get in
The farmhouse yes got in that very sketchy but some great stuff in there. Not many folk no about this one it’s pretty much off the radar
Damn, looks like I missed out.
I read your title and thought "Who in TF would name their farm 'Nettles Farm'?". Then I read where the name came from.
I did a couple of projects in safflower fields back in the day. Safflower stings like nettles and might be the same freaking thing with a fancy name and a commercial use. Anyway, I wore leather chaps to walk through and carried a couple of pieces of cardboard. Not so much to walk on or even stand on, but to part the shit so I could wiggle into a decent working position. You might consider some cardboard to help part the nettle sea...
Otherwise a good explore. Interesting place, I wonder how anybody abandons a place like that? Did the whole clan die in an alien invasion? It mystifies me.
I had to google 'Safflower', and it's not nettles. Those have some yellow flowers atop whereas nettles are strictly green with barbed edges (viewed close up).
...Nettles...
I tend to use my feet to try and crush the damn things, but they can spring back and get you.
I don't even know the real name of this one, and posting some history would give clues to other explorers. There is too much of value to give away a place like this... things get stolen etc..
