Tales of the Urban Explorer: Sedburgh Mill
Revelling in the previous success that morning of 'Yorkshire Rider Headquarters' we rolled up to what we thought was Sedburgh Mill which is located in an extremely dodgy area of Halifax and scoured the picture in front of us.
‘Well.. this looks like a right shithole’, I said to @dizzydiscovery with some dissatisfaction.
‘Is it this.. or that?’. I motioned him to another building on the other opposite of the road that looked in equally bad condition.
We checked out the 'other building', with grounds that could have been breached by climbing a wall, jumping into a tree, and then hanging at full stretch with an 8-foot drop below.
‘Er… let’s do The Hanging Tree Mill another day’. I said to him. @dizzydiscovery did not take much persuading and so we started probing for a way into Sedburgh Mill.
Information on Sedburgh Mill is sketchy. A quick google reveals information other explorers have gathered and little else.
This warehouse unit has been in use by many different owners throughout its time starting with the headquarters of John Holdsworth & Co Ltd in 1822.
Since then it has been card clothing manufacturers and wire and cable manufacturers, as well as a moving and storage company more recently. It has been abandoned since around 2004. - Text Source
The main gate looked promising. Unless you are extremely fat then ‘…that…’ was looking just a little too loose to prevent access.
So this was built in 1822, it sure did not look that way, at least not this part.
We quickly managed to get inside to a very familiar 'derpy' look.
The graffiti is not exactly up to Sheffield standards; are all the best artists in the city of steel?
This poor bird must have suffered, there's always some arsehole pulling shit like this. It had been dead for some time.
The weather was looking ominous and menacing as we continued through the remains of Sedburgh Mill.
Now what was all this, had someone left all their sketches behind?
I don't know what to make of the one on the right. It looks like something @katharsisdrill might come up with.
More graffiti, only slightly better than the regular stuff inside.
Someone’s been having a bonfire.
Just look at those hooks, perfect for a spot of torture.
If you can't find a way through a door, just burn it.
That's the second very uncomfortable-looking sofa we found.
It was a little bleak at Sedburgh Mill.
…as well as a little creepy in some areas.
At least we had solid stairs and not the usual rotting wood-type ones.
It was on to the next Halifax venue, oh what thrilling times!

Did you know you have your own profile map?
And every post has their own map too!
Want to have your post on the map too?
Looks like the place was stripped out. Do the graffiti people have their own places to post their work online? Not many would see it otherwise. The selection of artworks is odd though. Must be some relief to find something different.
I don't know if there was any correlation between that left art and the graffiti. It does look different enough to merit different people.
I only once met some graffiti artists on the job.., it was in Sheffield and for a forthcoming post. Do they post Online?.. yes they do as we found out that day.

Damn I’m jealous of these places near you they’ve upped the demolishing in Hampshire fml and in london you can just imagine the difficulty 🥲
Mills are a very northern thing.., towns such as Bradford and the surrounding areas are full of them. You will have locations in the South though, they are country-wide.
They make for a great adventure, are borderline legal and make readable posts on here! Whereabouts are you, I might be able to find a few..
Near Salisbury Originally and now South West London, got some lovely old WW2 structures nearby and old airfields - I lost all my old credentials to the Urbex Forums and now theyve understandably gotten tight with sharing the info so any tips you got would be brilliant! (Borderline legal😂😂😂 love it, and they really do make for good content)
Bring a nurse next time you go to these places... just in case ..
.
This was tame compared to the next one, some are tougher than others... :)
Thanks for continuing to make Hive awesome.
If as @manorvillemike suggests, you do take a nurse along with you please can I get an invite 😳
Love that hanging garden art in particular
As good as it get's at this place.
Looked more 1940's than 1820's! That chair looks to have seen much better days.
That info could be bullshit, it doesn't come from anywhere credible.
THIS photo is absolutely superb!!!
Don't suppose you ever found out why someone had left their artworks outside around the back? That is odd!
Thanks.. and no.., there was not a soul around, the weather was not exactly helping!
Seems I was there recently... high on weed!
I figured it was you.. all along!
