Tales of the Urban Explorer: The Fire Station

The missus has found an abandoned fire station", exclaimed @anidiotexplores with an unusual distinct lack of excitement.

It's great that his other half finds derps but they are not always of sterling quality and I was guessing this one did NOT stand rank to "The Cursed Cottage" in any way.

I checked the pin on Google Maps and found something semi-submerged and messy. The street view did not improve things and revealed a bad-looking building behind some dodgy fencing.

Maps.JPG

There could well be a large sack of used twenties in there thrown over the fence while some fugitive was being chased by the cops. We could soon be rich, very rich…, it was one of those places.

Parking not too close we walked up to the front of…. was that really ever a fire station?

If there was to be a nearby fire they might manage to extinguish a hyper-active cigarette it was that small. Or maybe it was a specialist station reserved for rescuing distressed stray cats from tall trees.

What was behind this heavily protected ‘gem’ of a big fence full of advertisements? The front way was not going to be an option as a very busy road was back to me.

That plywood is flimsy, cuts into your hands, and tends to break when more than 140lbs is weighing down on it. Not a good idea as collapsing into the grounds on my arse was not part of the plan.

It's all very well having your hands cut to shreds too.. 'have a look’, but when thirty bored motorists are at the nearby red light you can guarantee their eyes will be boring into the back of your skull.

Walking around the back I was thinking, What’s with all the razor wire?. This was all a little over the top.

With a struggle, we managed to slide past the palaside fencing, avoid the straggling bits of razor wire, and then it was a case of half running down this hill filled with dirt and hoping that I would not lose my footing.

13_IMG_7598_13.jpg

…’getting back up this stupid hill was not going to be fun when all you can grasp for leverage is loose weeds and rusty razor wire’…

The shit you do to get the swag. Except the swag had gone, or perhaps it was never there in the first place.

12_IMG_7597_12.jpg

I looked around and disappointment is a serious understatement. All this work for one room of near-nothingness? It was worse than London House and that’s saying something.

7_IMG_7592_7.jpg

I entered the “Control Room” hoping for some mental stimulation and even the teeniest tiniest photography opportunity.

In your dreams….

8_IMG_7593_8.jpg

LFC rule of course, unless you are in Everton. The mandatory shopping trolley was stashed away in the corner.

10_IMG_7595_10.jpg

Upstairs was out of the question as the stairs had collapsed some time ago.

4_IMG_7589_4.jpg

An old copy of Radio Times and the Liverpool Echo from 2015 greeted me. Not even a soggy condom in sight.

6_IMG_7591_6.jpg

Looking at the other side of that plywood entrance, I felt it would have been a bad idea. For once there were no ‘explorers aids’ in the form of wheelie bins, piles of loose wobbly bricks, or chairs to aid me in the climb.

2_IMG_7587_2.jpg

No shit, this is Liverpool. I don’t need reminding.

5_IMG_7590_5.jpg

What a shit tip. This one needs demolishing. I have seen no other reports of this ‘fire station’ which is not surprising. It is not worth the effort.

11_IMG_7596_11.jpg

It was time to climb up the muck heap again; this is what the life of an explorer is all about.... sigh.

How was the climb back up? There's a bit of history there even if there's nothing much left. It needs documenting and you are the man to do it!

(Edited)

It was a pain in the arse, I am not young anymore and everything is slower and takes more effort. The razor wire was not helping.

Neither did I, I might not have been able to climb the hill alone.

😄😄😄 But it would have been a great adventure exploring these places I suppose. One thing more I would like to add is your profile picture is outstanding, how did you come up with that.

So glad we are on the same wavelength, I'm not really a 'transformer dude' fan either.
