My first day off since I started working

I slept very well through the night. We discharged all our patients in my unit.

The last patient we had had an intestinal mass growing on his cecum until it ruptured. He was under our care for more than a week and it has been my duty to check on him regularly and give him IV drugs.

On paper he was discharged, however, he was still in the hospital receiving nursing care.

I went out first to submit my application for a loan for $250 from the Association of Resident doctors. I am not sure you can totally call this a loan given that it does not have any interest on it.

The next part of my day was to help a friend out to pick up the report of an application for research she wants to do in the university on HIV medication response.

She is a new friend I met a few days back. She is a pharmacist and she is a graduate of this University (Nnamdi Azikiwe University). As it turns out she didn't state the name of her supervisor and that turned out to be an issue when she submitted her proposal.

After that, I got a call that there was a patient that needed prescriptions for hs investigations before receiving chemotherapy. I am not sure when he is due for chemo but apparently on my day off I couldn't get a break.

I went to the ward to see him and saw the wife of the patient we had discharged who needed a re-prescription because of an error that was found on one of her drugs. It was a learning experience for me because I did not know that Pentazocine was not taken orally and I wrote for Tabs Pentazocine and the Pharmacist bounced the prescription.

Then the last part of my day was an orientation meeting with the Resident Doctors. In the meeting they tried to address some issues that the House officers were having and could have during practice. They also acknowledged my loan and said that they plan on granting the loan to me while leaving me anonymous.

Now I'm back in my room trying to summarise a day off that I was supposed to spend at home that I ended up spending outside.

Anyway hope you enjoyed catching up... Have a nice day!!!
