YOUNG SIMBA (HAPPY BIRTHDAY DADDY)

Almost everyone has seen Lion king. I was talking to a random girl on the bus on my way to Rivers state last year about the remake with Beyoncé voicing as Nala. It is a beautiful story of what a person can become if he/she goes through the adversity and not around it. it's the story of Simba. But it is really the story of you and me.

I remember watching the cartoon as a child and I just couldn't wait to be king. But I had no kingdom. My father was a lecturer at UST. But yet, I wanted to be king. As a child you don't fully understand the story…but it is absolutely captivating because of its promises.

When I first got into secondary school. My dad had gotten back from the abroad. That was when I started to have a strong picture of who he was. He wasn't one of those super strict fathers. He only flogged me once…ever. If my father's role back then could be summarized into a sentence it would be "Go on, you can do it." the sentence would usually end with "if you study hard enough…you'll get a scholarship to study abroad."

I believed him with all my heart and all my soul…because it was Mufasa speaking. And when Mufasa speaks…Simba listens. Today, I'm not in the abroad. In fact, I'm still an undergraduate. But where I am, where I could be if things went bad and where I could be if things go well for me gives reason to believe that my father's push was a lot. Don't get me wrong. My mom formed the foundation of the building…but my dad put that cornerstone right where it was supposed to be.

The role of a father cannot and should not be underestimated. Happy birthday, Daddy. Thank you for showing me how to rule the Pride Lands.
