It has been the 3rd hottest start into June on record. Temperatures have gone above 90F/32C and it's been giving my old air conditioner a workout. It's most enjoyable being outdoors in the early morning and that is when the birds seem to be most active, too.

Mourning dove
It is one of the most plentiful and widespread of all North American birds. Millions of birds are shot annually in the U.S. for sport, . Its a good thing that one pair of doves may raise up to six broods of young in a single year.

Rose-breasted Grosbeak
The colorful male Rose-breasted Grosbeaks take a turn sitting on the eggs for several hours during the day. The female incubates during the rest of the day and all night long.

Ruby-throated Hummingbird is eastern North America's only hummingbird.

I've been keeping all my potted plants well watered, but a few of them are showing signs of stress. Annuals have become expensive, and I am crossing my fingers that I can keep them alive. We need rain badly.

I'm staying indoors. I went out early today, just as the sun was coming up and it was already hot. We need rain badly.

Bird sanctuary backyard..

It's really not much of a backyard by normal standards. Just a narrow pathway of grass and then the trees begin. The birds do like it, but there wouldn't be room for lawn games.

Wow all those birds in your backyard. I am so envious of your place. Even the clouds in the last photo look beautiful.

That is my only view of the sky. I miss sunrises and sunsets, but I love the trees and you can't have both!

We got some insane heat recently! Thankfully we got lucky here where we are and got a thunderstorm that dropped torrential rain! We got about 2 inches of rain in an hour so we got a good refresh with that and the plants liked it.

I’m thrilled you got hummingbirds! I haven’t seen one in so many years, my parents backyard used to get them here and there. They are so cool to see! I’ve got a bunch of plants on the deck and some flowers just waiting for something awesome like that to show up.

The mourning doves are indeed plentiful. I didn’t know people shot them lol but I always know when they are around, their funny squeals they make when they take flight get me.

Indeed, but I think wherever I go I will be surrounded by birds.

If I'm not mistaken, the photo shows a drinking bowl for birds?

The red feeder contains nectar (sugar water) for the hummingbirds. I do have a bird bath in the yard, but it mostly goes unused. The creek and the river provide all the water that they need.

I have read and seen that hummingbirds drink the nectar of flowers. And they hang in one place in flight.
Do you have hummingbirds? Wow!

Yes. One variety of hummingbirds, Ruby - throated spend their summers here, nest and raise their young. I had one yesterday that was buzzing all around me and so close to my face that I could feel the air movement from her wings. I'm never sure if they are being friendly or trying to scare me away!

Yes.:) We do not have such a miracle. :) We only have mosquitoes and midges.

Oh, we have those, too, but the birds eat their share of the bugs!
